Last day on the Road

... could do but pass the time dozing, playing playstation and chatting with the other on the bus.

The ferry crossing was very choppy! Quite a few people got seasick unfortunately, but thankfully I wasn´t one of them.

As we drove back to London, we all played a game called "Secrets", where you write on a piece of paper any secret you have kept over the tour and want to get off your chest before ...

Day minus 1: Sod's law

"Whatever can go wrong at the most inopportune moment, will" Sod's law

All I had to do today was to get the laptop ready for travel: clear out old files to make space for photos, transfer my planning files with all the hotel, travel and other necessary detail; and check in.

First the laptop email chose ...

Day minus 2: Leaving home

"We're leavinghome" Beatles

Leaving thehouse for three months over winter can be a bit of a worry, and besides, thehouse insurers don’t like it.

Fortuitously,Barbara and Steve will be house sitting. Good friend Barbara and new partnerSteve have both recently left failed marriages and are looking to start a newlife together. So the arrangement suitsthem, suits us, and suit our insurers.

But even so,much has to be done to get the house ...

Day minus 3: Getting the right seat

"If you can always sit, don't stand; lie, don’t sit" Anon

Unless you’ve got first class seats, you are not going to lie, so get a good seat.

Flying is a very competitive business. Not just amongst the airlines, but also amongst passengers. Because (particularly on a long haul flight) you’ve got to give yourself the best chance of getting the best seat.

Once this was easy: just ...

Day minus 4: The packing

"Got no bags and baggage to slow me down ......" Cliff Richard - Travellin' light.

No that's not strictly true. I may be travelling light, but Vanda's has already emptied her three wardrobes, and yesterday the kitchen sink went missing. Think that may also be in the case!

Take a lot or take a little. that has been the debate over the last several weeks.

Vanda's view is she will need clothes for every conceivable occasion, and washing and ironing ...

Punting For A Pint

... once you got the feel for it you could start putting more effort into it. Another thing I noticed was up to this point we had been standing in one spot straight up and pushing. This was also a bad idea. I found that if you started with your weight on the left foot (standing left in front of right with the boat length) and then as you pushed you transferred your weight back onto the right foot and kind of swayed with the push it took even more of ...

My Royal Castle and Dinton Meadows

... of one of the walls of the restored room, which was not a part of the audio tour. It said that this piece of wall was where the original outer wall of the garderobe was before the Castle was extended at some point, I suppose. Interesting to think that despite all the fully restored beauty of the room now, in its former life it was simply a bathroom at the end of the hall. Within the Castle complex there are many additional attractions, including the fourteenth ...
