It's basically the only reason i wanted to come to CR....

Arrived in Costa Rica today and made it to CR Backpackers after a fellow traveler we met at the bus station recommended it. It's ok. There are much cheaper, worse options and similar but cheaper ones...so this isn't optimal, but for 2 nights it`ll do.

Not a particularly eventful trip down. Border crossing was pretty painless (well, as much as can be expected...), the trip was long and hot...blah, the usual.

The way to San Jose!

Short flight from Havana to San Jose and felt like weŽd landed in another world. Fast food and americanisation everywhere. Actually quite nice to see burger king and pizza hut after Cuban basics!

Partly due to rain storms and partly to just wanting to chill out we stayed at the hostel watching movies, eating yummy salads and using free internet. Explored San Jose a little the next morning but apart from going into a cathedral and a food market, it just seemed to be fast food chains an...

Early Days...

12 June 2008 The day IŽd dreamt about for many years had finally arrived, and I was a huge mixed bag of emotions. Excitement, because this was what IŽd always wanted to do. Fear, because this was so far out of my comfort zone. Sadness, because this was the last time IŽd see my fiancee, Debbie, before we meet up in Brisbane on 19 October. Journey was long and uneventful - even my luggage turned up in San Jose on the same plane as me (so apologies to Terminal 5 for dissing you before the event)...

Poolen ser i hvert fald indbydende ud.

Comming Home

Hola, After some hiking and relaxation in Boquete, we took a very long bus (10 hours!) back to San Jose. We splurged ($27) on a nice room to spend our final days and hung out with some cool backpackers on our last night. But, at last, our trip has come to an end. We are boarding our flight today and will be back in San Francisco by midnight. Of course, this has been a trip of a lifetime. To be a foreigner truly makes you appreciate how easy life can be when you are at home. It also becomes cl...

Back in San Jose

Back in San Jose with the plan to use here as a base go to Volcano Poas National Park and whitewater rafting in Turrialba over the next couple of days before I head north to Costa RicaŽs caribbean coast . Had some rather bad news regarding later on in my trip - IŽve had it in the back of my mind for a while that I need to book my Inca Trail Trek in Peru for July (because there is a government restriction on the number of people that can climb the trail after the numbers were getting unmanagea...

Another volcano, senor ... oh go on then, one more

Up early to take a day trip out of San Jose up to Volcan Poas which is supposedly the most visited national park in Costa Rica. It takes about two hours or so to get there from San Jose by local bus via a nearby town called Alajuela and passing through some quite stunning scenery in a region called Western Meseta Central. The active volcano crater is really a "wow" sight and possibly the most visually spectacular volcano I have seen. On this occasion I was actually pretty pleased it didn't re...

We had a horrible time in San Jose, one of our worst experiences so far i think, in fact definately. We arrived about 8.30 on our bus from Santa Elena and were aware that it was semana santa and that accomodation might be tricky to come by, we had tried to reserve somewhere but didnt want to do so before we had a bus ticket and by the time we did, we couldnt book online because you cant book for the evening of the same day. So we arrived in San Jose in the bus station in a real rough area, it...
