Well that was a quick visit

Wednesday June 11th. It rained over night so everything was a bit cooler this morning. We packed up and checked out and checked with the hostel staff and his list that the next ferry we wanted to get was the 10am. So we had ample time to get a good breakfast at the Cornerhouse a cafe run by an expat and served excellent breakfasts. Yum eggs …

Day 75 Today we are leaving nicaragua and heading to Costa Rica! We're all looking forward to it but dreading the border crossing after the last one. We got a taxi to the border instead of trying to get all sorts of buses (were getting a wee bit fed up of hunners of different buses). The crossing was much easier this time, but Costa Rica has some …

A brief return to San Jose

A travel blog entry by lukitolocita

We hadn't intended to return to San Jose, but it served as our transportation hub to travel to La Fortuna and on to Monteverde. The stay was pretty uneventful....we took advantage of the chance to cook a decent dinner and to check out some of the nightlife for some live music.....a reggae band out of Southern California named Fortunate Youth. Not bad.

The Capitol

Here my journey begins in the capital of Costa Rica. San Jose! Spent most of the day seeing the city parks and sights. Grabbed a yummy cappuccino near my hostel. Then a sandwich at probably the only vegetarian restaurant here, called Vishnu. Delicious, not to mention dirt cheap! Pizza Hut, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Taco Bell, KFC? Yes, …

freindly, great pool and garden area. Even after check out time you can still hang out and use all the facilites. Only down side is the train that runs past, not the hostel's fault but super annoying all the same, If possible try and get a room at the back under the hostel as opposed to one outside, much quieter, not so much nosie from the train. Recommend this above the Lonely Planet recommended hostels.

Needs a lot of love, looking a little shabby round the edges but has the basics, internet, TV, just about enough cuttlery and friendly staff.

We stayed in double room with fan and shared bath. Our room was spartan and clean but lacking charm. The shared areas are attractive with reggae constantly playing on the various sound systems.. Many places to hang out. The garden with pool is well maintained and inviting. Quick (4 hour) laundry service. Showers are warm (not hot). Friendly travel advice and service on site. Nice bank of computers and wifi to keep in touch. Helpful staff...We didn't use the shared kitchen but it appeared to be quite crowded at times.

The adjoining restaurant served decent food in the loud bar area. We found great budget food at the soda (open till 5:00pm) nearby around the corner and local bus stops block and a half away. Pizza Hut and a decent Sushi place is 3 or 4 blocks away.

Good for a brief stay. A bit hectic for longer stays.
