Over the border

Goodbye New South Wales and hello to Queensland. It's taken us a while but we are in our second Australian state. The Gold Coast in known for its beaches so we decided to stop at Coolangatta, mainly because of it's laid back reputation and it's beaches. It's a popular surf area but as neither of us can stand on a board we opted instead to stick to exploring the beaches and sunbathing. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it. We walked along some of the beaches, heading from North Kirra t...

Random little town

One last stop on gold coast before Brisbane. I pretty much just picked one at random and decided on somewhere called Coolangatta. Not a whole lot going on, just a surf town but only here for one night so by the time i eventually got here late afternoon (bus broke down) I just dumped my bag and got straight on another bus to the Currumbin Wildlife sanctuary. It was fab. Saw very cute koalas, Tasmanian devils, crocs, wallabys, dingos and wandered among the Kangaroos. Had a walk along the beach ...

... population, it will now be referred to as 'Muslim weather'. In other words - 'partly Sunni but mostly Shi'ite' We arrived back into Brisbane on time and made our way to the storage area to pick up our caravan and the F250. We had anticipated a problem starting the truck and had arranged for someone to be there with another vehicle to use jump leads on. Unfortunately starting was not the only problem. When we lifted the bonnet there was dry ...

... everything there shuts at 10pm - so not a lot of options to amuse oursleves! No TV, Internet or Kitchen!! So all we could do was sit out front and watch the world go by.....till bedtime! What a night! Our 6 bed dorm was like a sauna and any hope of sleeping was long gone! Friday 22nd February 2008 Decided to stop being big wimps and have a bit of fun in the Sun - so off to Dreamworld amusement park we skipped! After an hr's wait for a bus in the 35 degree heat ...

... gusts of 100kmh +) so that was a good test. We quickly had breakfast and I (Stephen) got lunch together whilst Suz had a shower (still coughing and only feeling 80%) and at about 9.30am we headed off back down south on the M1 and the boys excitement level grew the closer we got to Dreamworld and it was decided that Cyclone (Roller coaster) would be the first choice and Tower of Terror (car on rails that shoots straight off at high acceleration ...

SHARKKKKKKKK!

... when we had Liz as an instructor, she behaved normally, explaining that she was scared of the sharks and Liz would hold her hand when we saw 3 meter long Grey Nurse Sharks (hurray!). Then, the final day, Liz was off and we were taught by an Italian man called Niko. Niko was great fun and very relaxed - he let his friend Pepe from the pizzaria come with us and we were all chatting. I don't know if it was raging hormones or a nitrogen ...

Done and done

Well, I have not had much time to get online and now I have tons of stuff write. I might have to do it in stages. I promise I will try to upload some photos soon, but I can't guarantee anything. New Years Eve was a lot of fun in Melbourne. I didn't have any plans and didn't really know anyone, so I went down to the bar in my hostel that evening to try to meet people to hang out with. I started chatting with a girl and her boyfriend, Ami and Lach, who were ...

Stress free cruising, Chunder,Hippies and Sharks!

... particularly as I believe it stands for Prisoners of her Majesty in Exile, not sure if most Ozzys know that. I may do some diving on the trip but decided to spend my time on the boat taking in the sea. Gib hadn't taken enough weights with him for first dive and so struggled to descend at first, but he soon got into the swing of things. He came up about 45 minutes later beaming from ear to ear, and told me he had seen his biggest ever Sharks (he ...

Surf Camp to Byron Bay

... but no real joy - I even told the one I was with she looked like Kayleigh Pearson! (She did, but I did have a sly eye at the time!) This is the most carnage place I think I have even been in (and being 27 I've been to a few mental places in my time!) Everyone is up for a great time! Beers flowing, funky chicken dancing and far too much getting amongst it! At last - this is why I came to Autralia! (in respect to night time activities!) Ended up pulling a rather nice ...
