Cool Bananas

Definitely, I would recommend 1770 as a stop along the east coast and nearly everyone who visits does. Far more relaxed and less the developed than other stops, 1770 is unique to the east coast and ideal for chilling out and doing as little as possible. The town is pretty cheap too with many affordable activities to be considered. Surfing, Kayaking, Choppering and even flying to name a few. We didn't do any. We stayed in a hostel called cool bananas, one of the best I've seen and spent the th...

Catching our breath

So after the craziness and lack of sleep in Hervey Bay and Fraser, Luke and I boarded the buses that took us to a tiny little town off the backpacker track called Agnes Water, which is basically made up of four houses, a little shopping center, and Cool Bananas, our hostel. Right next door, and really the reason for going to Agnes Water is The Town of 1770, named this because that's when Capt Cook landed there while exploring Australia. Now, 1770 is a very laidback place with a very pretty st...

1770

We arrived in 1770, not in a Delorean unfortunately, just a bus. The town of 1770 has only had a sealed road for a few years so it has still managed to retain most of its charm. Sadly, this is soon to be destroyed by developers trying to exploit and pedal exactly the kind of atmosphere they're about to destroy with large scale development of resorts and villas already underway. Houses along the port are now worth in excess of $4 million - we were introduced to one little old lady who refuses ...

Byron bay - Cairns

Hello! It's going to be difficult for me to remember everything that I did on this trip because it was quite a while ago and I've not got my journal with me (that's right I kept a journal because i'm a travelling pro/geek). Ok so after Byron Bay - which was awsome by the way - Sned (thali's boyfriend) arrived and he rented a car and we drove up to Noosa via SurfersParadise. We didn't stay in Surfers because we heard it's not great but we did go to Movie world. Which was quite fun but we got t...

Agnes Water/Town of 1770

We arrived in Agnes Water at about 10.30am and checked into our hostel. We only had one day here so we had a walk around and then Nick really wanted to do this Scooteroo thing that people had recommended to us but it involved riding a scooter and so I couldn't do it with my dodgy neck! He went and saw wild kangaroos too... so jealous! That night we had ourselves a BBQ and ate too much! We stayed up for a bit with teh Germans from our dorm and then went to bed as three out of six of us had a 6...

Newbie

This is what I call peaceful. Agnes Water and 1770 is a sleepy pair of beach towns at the south end of the Great Barrier Reef. It's also the farthest north place in Australia where you can surf. I took advantage of both. I was recommended to stay at a hostel called Cool Bananas, but it was full the first night I was in town. I made a reservation for the next two nights, but I ended up not moving after seeing how they treat people. I was much happier at 1770 Backpackers where the staff was fri...

1770 Cool Bananas ....

What a place this is and to think I was not going to stop off here at all! We only decided at the last minute to stop off here and it has been a great decision. Rose and I are still travelling together and before all of you gossips get talking/thinking, she has a boyfriend back at home and we are just mates but it's kind of nice to have someone to share this trip with for a short while and we seem to get along very well and we meet and hang out with lots of other people as we go too. When we ...

Where the town has no name

You always know when a town has an interesting name its going to be an interesting place. The town of 1770 is wedged in beside another town called Agnes Water which is where most of the hostels, shops etc are. We are currently staying in Cool Bananas hostel here and the next stop is the whitsundays. So anyway 1770, a town with numbers for its name... Named after the Captain James Cook expedition of 1770, Its a really senic spot and probably the only place on the east coast where the sun rises...

Feeling Good!

It's just before seven o'clock in the morning. The sun's been out for almost two hours already and is warm on my face. I can see a handful of tiny little lizards fighting for the prime sunbathing spot on the patio floor boards a few feet away. They seemingly move without flexing a muscle, as if they're stuck to a magnet that someone else is moving on the other side of the boards. I've just made myself a nice cup of tea after finishing my breakfast, a bowl of Honey Nut Nutri-Grain cereal. This...

The best town in Australia!

For those of you who didn't get my email, let me repeat myself.  Jon has just informed me that the spell check on this Travelpod site doesn't work.  It says the words have been changed, but in fact, they haven't.  So all the blogs I have posted have not been spell checked.  What the hell.  I'm a little embarrassed, but more so upset.  Now I have to go back and reread, and respell-check every single blog.  Damn.  However, Jon and Mike have let me in on their secret, so all the blogs from now o...
