Berlin

Guten Morgen!! The past few days I've been in Berlin and really enjoying learning about this huge city. I've taken two amazing tours while I'm here and have seen a lot of the sights. My first tour was a walking tour around Berlin, stopping in at the Berlin wall, checkpoint charlie, the brandenburg gate and the seeing the reichstag, the most visited parlment building in the world. All that and amongst the other things I saw was a perfect introduction to seeing Berlin. The other tour was a real...

The Birkenstock mission has also been accomplished!! Now I can shop for me :) July 16th: Happy Birthday to Danielle!! Today I got up at 5:20 am to catch my flight from Paris to Berlin... who planned that??? Anyway I made my way to the airport and suprisingly enough the metro line was full at that time of day. I arrived at the airport which is slightly different that you would find in Alberta/Canada. I was able to figure it out though and security was pretty lax. I had a layover in Dussledorf ...

Friday Berlin

Didn't have to rush for the train today, so had time to drop into the bakery to stock up for the trip. Trained south from Amsterdam into Germany to Duisburg, where we changed to an eastbound train to Berlin. Two lovely, comfortable, quiet smooth trains in one-day. Watched a movie on my PDA while Mandy and Ashley slept. Took the S-bahn a couple of stops to the hostel. Very nice -- large rooms -- equipped with the Internet and Wi-Fi, cafe, bar, laundry gets done etc, but ev...

Paris, Amsterdam and Berlin - BUSABOUT begins

Prior to leaving Australia we purchased a 12 week "hop on hop off" bus ticket with the same company (Busabout) we travelled for 2 weeks with in 1999. We have mapped out a rough plan for the next 12 weeks but it is very flexible. We will however leave the busabout circuit at various times to do our own thing. PARIS Our first day took us across the channel by bus on the ferry and we arrived for just one night in Paris having spent a week there before. Paris is as beautiful as ever and this time...

16th May - Berlin We arrived at 8:13 and took the S-Bahn to our hostel. We then walked to the Jewish Museum and saw Checkpoint Charlie along the way. The Jewish Museum was very informative and interesting, there were lots of displays, and the design of the building itself is part of the attraction too. Next we met up with Heike who is a friend of ours from Germany who did a half year exchange at our school in Yarrawonga. We had some drinks and Snitzel for tea. It was great to see Heike again ...

Well Im finally in Berlin! The Bus ride was long and took all day. Even with the several service stops without being able to open the windows it felt like i was back on the plane, artifical air! I hate it!! Our guide was late to board the bus, seems he partied a little too hard at our pub crawl the night before! Watched Bourne ultimatum aboard the bus which helped the time pass, and read more of my harry potter book, which I have almost finished! Didnt get in til about 7pm, and we both stayed...

We arrived in Berlin after a night train from Paris, first thing after checking into the hostel we went to the Jewish Museum which has the whole history of the Jewish religion and people. That evening we met Heike, an exchange student from Germany who came to Yarrawonga when we were in school. We had some drinks at a few bars then met one of her friends, who is also Aussie then we had tea at a German restaurant, we had a great schnitzel. The next day, after getting myself a haircut (luckily t...

Guten Tag from Berlin

Guten Tag, Berlin has been excellent so far but we wanted to quickly back track on a few items we missed. 1. We're not having much luck with uploading photos to the computer to post to our travelblog but think we may just keep you guessing and post the whole album on shutterfly when we return. 2. On our way out we surprised Adam and Laura at their chalet in Maryland.  We got to see Alexander he is just as cute as all of the pictures Laura has been sending.  It was so nice to see them and thei...

Sport, culture & sexuality mostly on two wheels

Our three short days in Berlin were packed full with sporting events, festivals and parades. From the minute we arrived in the country we exposed to the fact that Germany is much more liberal that any of the other country we had visited thus far. From the exuberant greeting and groping at that airport that often had me turning away blushing to men openly kissing on public buses, something we hadn't seen in 6 months of travel. After our long wait at the St Petersburg airport without food or dr...
