We again flew Cathay from Hongkong to Sydney. Efficient with good selection of latest hollywood flicks. Was a bit apprehensive of the quarantine regulations in this part. We were carrying some packaged stuff as well as some emergency medication. We declared the stuff and qued up in the line meant for "carrying drugs and foodstuff". Turned out they were quite understanding and let us keep our "drugs" and the foodstuff.
Were somewhat let down by the outlook of the terminal. Nowhere near ...

Australia, Australia gonetilwheneverArriving in Sydney at 7.45 in the morning, the sun was already blazing down and we had a great view of the harbour and opera house as the plane descended and came into land. We caught a shuttle bus which dropped us at the door of our accommodation for the week, Harbour City Backpackers situated next to the Botanical Gardens and near the city centre. Despite being tired we headed straight out to check out the sights, walking through the CBD (Central Business District) along Pitt Street and to...
Sydney, Australia heathermillsGood day mates! We are in Australia! We arrived to warm sunny beautiful weather. Our hostel is in an interesting part of the city called King's Cross. It is a cross of Vegas and the east side. The hostel itself is a huge pink mansion that was converted to a hostel. It is so exciting! We have our own room with a t.v. We did not luck out on the weather our first few days here. Raining and drury. We used that time to go to the Sydney Aquarium. It is amazing. It is set in Darling Harbour which is...
Sydney, Australia jessandmelOvernight bus to the City Resort Hostel, looked nice on web, but oh dear... Things were not so good in reality. In fact I'd go as far to say its the shabbiest place we've stayed in, in Oz. Wouldnt have been a problem except next day my Dad was coming to visit! Oh well, its a good taster of backpacker life. Rooftop terrace was nice though - a motley collection of plastic chairs with a nice view over the city, even the rats and cockroaches helped provide a nice place to drink the goon! Spent th...
Sydney, Australia mothmanwhen dressing for my trip, i figured some nice comfy clothes would do me pretty well considering i'd be able to get to my luggage the next day. well, 72 hours wearing the exact same clothes, without any of my supplies, is an experience in itself. needless to say, if anyone here was meeting an American for the first time, they would probably think we are all homeless smelly vagabonds. i never thought the most exciting part of my trip to this point would be to take a shower, i'm holding my n...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia nickandsteph For those who do not know, australias nickname is Oz. It comes from the
abbreviation which is Aus and is pronounced like, well, Oz. Sydney is
fittingly known as emerald city.
Sydney is everything you imagine it to be. It's gorgeous, from the
buildings to the trees, the birds, the flowers, and especially the
people.
One thing that is hard to get used to is the fact that they drive on
the left side of the road. We constantly had to remind ourselves t...
Emerald city part 2- creatures and foods and jazz music
As with most cities, Sydney offered so many different things to do and see we weren't sure what things to choose. We decided to visit a few of the animal themed attractions. The Sydney aquarium and wild life worldand also the taranga zoo.
We saw some awesome creatures, especially the koalas kangaroos wombats and dugongs. The kangaroos were literally inches from us and not in cages or behind ropes or glass or anything. They just r...
Not such an early start today but a heavy day ahead of me, though I didn't entirely grasp that concept until I was down in the valley. Before that however I had to navigate Katoomba Street which seemed to have grown a market overnight and was thronging with people. It turned out that the Winter Solstice Festival, which has been going for about eight years now, was on this weekend and there were all sorts of people wandering around, from witches to (giant) leprechauns and pirates. It was inter...
Katoomba, Australia sahsG'day Mate from Down Under. Sorry it's been a bit since the last update but we've been busy and running the roads. We made it into town and puttered around for a few days. Seems we're getting into the habit of finding **** hostels when we 1st get into town. We found ourselves in a particularly **** dive called the City Resort Hostel...hmm, things with 'resort' in the name often prove deceiving...to be brief, after a long discussion with the owner we got our last night there refunded. Our next...
Sydney, Australia themooners
... as the ariel isnt in properly (that's fixed now though). The sofas are falling apart, fluff is coming out of them. The blinds are held up to the brackets by string. Most of the drawers in the kitchen are broken (though with a bit of DIY and a hammer i found i fixed two of them) The ceiling is grey but we cant figure out if it is supposed to be like that or if its dirt. There is a light switch above my bed...but the buttons are sunk into the wall. You have to puch our bedroom ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia siov.hall... up to the sharing basic information about each other stage of things, so they have not known each other for long... but I just heard the girl refer to wanting to go dancing naked, so one has to wonder... I had just one presentation today, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think there is a conspiracy among the schools about not paying for the presentations, as I am supposed to collect a cheque at the end of each ...
