Well, today was much like the last, trying to figure out where I'm going to study and for how long. I'm signed up for the Palestine Arab Studies program (PAS) at Birzeit which starts June 8th and would allow me to join regular Palestinian students in classes on Arab society and culture and politics. I'm excited about that because the university …

Jewish extremist encounter
No place to eat breakfast because of ramadan, everything is closed. Walked accross border to Israel. Hope I don't run into problems because of the entry stamp in my passport. What a huge difference from Jordan. Eilat was full of young people, new Mercedes taxis, and way more expensive. Played cards with a local Jew waiting for the bus to Jerusalem …
The holy city
Reflecting back on the bus ride into Jerusalem, I felt like I was watching a movie from back in time. My first huge culture shock, Jews walking around minding their own business like normal, when I think their appearance is out of this world. Curlly, long sideburns, beird, black suits, briefcase in hand, and a huge hat. There is no way anyone can …
Bad News!!! we are stuck again.......
As you all know we were hoping to catch a boat to Italy. That is why we came to Israel, but upon checking our email, we soon learnt that the boat was full. The next available boat is not until the 20th of September. We had left Egypt without confirmation of availability, stupid really.

Whilst there is nothing spectacular about this hostel it is very affordable and definately the place to stay if you are on a budget.
If you want to stay in the Old City it is very close to Jaffa Gate (the main entrance) The staff are very friendly and helpful and the beds are comfortable, The hostel also has a terrific view from the roof (where you can also sleep)
The bathrooms are definately a downside - they are very very small, often with wet floors and aren't always the cleanest but if you can get past that then it's definately a good place to stay on a budget. (There is okay wifi down in the lobby and second floor also)

good location in the old city and great views from the top...way too cramped though...they squeeze bodies pretty much anywhere and everywhere. I'm surprised there wasn't someone sleeping on the reception desk! Kitchen was so-so, good atmosphere but many youngins...we left after 3 nights to stay somewhere else which was much more spacious...
