Got in to town at 6am and jumped in to a taxi to take us to the Churup hostel. They only had availability of a double room and a single room but it was still cheap so we went for it. Nice little hostel with a brilliant view of the mountains. Slept for an hour or two then got up and learned that matt was ill again. Mooched about town for the day and didnt get hastled once to buy anything or have a massage or smoke weed. It was bliss. So nice to be in a laid back town for once. Hired a mountain...

Huaraz, Peru floribandiniI can't decide which I hate more, mozzies or cockroaches. The hotel in Chiclayo (of the infamous cable telly) had so many cockroaches, they int**rupted my viewing pleasure. But at least they are easi** to kill than mozzies. Helen 10, Cockroaches 0. Having had our fill of pyramids and rapidly running out of books, my travelling companions (Nick, British and Monica, Norwegian) and I headed to Trujillo, a nice clean town down the coast filled with beautiful colonial buildings and great doughnut ...
Iquitos, Peru heleneWe left Mancura, somewhat sad, given that we are not likely to see a beach for the remainder of our trip (that is if we stick to the itinerary). Excited, but without any expectations, we headed to Huaraz. To reach it, it took the total of 17 hours of pretty much non stop bus travel (* can be done in a day Mancorra (overnight) - Trujillo - Chimbote - Huaraz). Incredible journey through a barren canyon, spectacular views, and breathtaking drops on one side of the bus to the deep river below. We...
Huaraz, Peru jameshanaHave spent the last few days in Huaraz in a very nice hostel with amazing views from the cafe on the top floor. Huaraz is located in the Cordillera Blanca, and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains (pictures to follow). However, until today it has been too cloudy and rainy to see them, but luckily they emerged today and the views from all over the town are quite spectacular (although it looks like it might be about to rain again now). On Tuesday I arrived on the overnight bus from Trujillo. ...
Huaraz, Peru nick__chadwickhello hello yes i am backdating this entry (i am actually in in chiclayo now) check this page in a week or two for fotos of huaraz so yes huaraz was lovely it is a city wedged between the cordilletra blanca and the cordillera negro o f the andes (sorry for the unfixed typos the d backspace button keeps getting stuck and eating half my post an d i am too lazy to use the arrow and delete button sorrry!) the buildings and such arent too pretty bc much of the city was levelled in an earthquake in...
Huaraz, Peru nissasuePost circa 16hrs of travel from Ica, that entailed two bus rides, the first of which was commandeered by the all too familiar Sth Am maniac, between which nondescript foodstuffs were consumed during a three hour stopover in Lima, we arrived somewhat bleary-eyed in the town of Huaraz. We found a buzzing minopolis of near 100,000 personas, amongst their number an omnipresent contingent of trekkers and climbers from all corners of the globe. They, as we, were here to sample the fare of the Cordi...
Huaraz, Peru nybridgeAhhh, this is much more like it..... trekking in the Cordillera Blanca in the Andes. After all its what we came to this area for. Anyway, had better start at the begining.... Arrived Huaraz at 3am to pouring rain. Spent the first night in a lovely hostel but it was absolutely ******* cold. So we moved to Alberque Churup. Traveller´s Tip.... Stay at the Churup ! After 6 months of travel this is far and away the best hostel ever. Think alpine style house on 5 floors. Add super comfy private roo...
Huaraz, Peru pimpernelDef one of the highlights of the trip so far. This is a ridiculously beautiful town in the Andes in Northern Peru. Son of a ***** to get here but worth it. More peaks above 6,000 metres around this town (in the Cordillera Blanca and the Cordillera Negro - snow covered mountains and non covered mountains hence the black and white names) than in all of North America. Ranks second to the Hymalas (Europe by the way does not have a mountain of 6,000 metres). Here I do a trip to the Patoruri Glacie...
Huarez, Peru ray_harringtonSo we arrived in Lima late at night, after traveling for an entire day from Puerto Columbia (PC) in Venezuela. We took the local bus from PC to Maracauy which cost us 5,000 bolivares and then took a servicio ejecutivo from Maracauy to Caracas for 7,500 bolivares and then caught the metro to Gato Negro and caught a bus from right opposite the metro station to the airport for 8,000 bolivares. (A little note to my friends who might be wondering why the hell am I quoting prices for everything - a...
