Christchurch YMCA

I arrived in Christchurch after an early morning flight. There was beautiful clear skies on take off and landing - great views of the bay and city in Melbourne and stunning outlook over the southern alps and approach to Christchurch. So my "weekend" this weekend consisted of 6 days. Not bad really! started off with a very wet journey to auckland on a 6 hour bus, where i spent a soggy 4 hours in rain iv never seen like it. Did some souvineir shopping as new plymouth has none, and was very restrained. I wanted to buy so many nice clothes, and even a pair of boots to replace the ones that broke for 30 dollars, but my hand luggage only ticket to christchurch just wouldnt allow for shopping :( So i did well...

7am - Our domestic flight back to Christchurch was at 11am, so it was an early (well, earlier than we'd been used to) start to begin packing and sorting everything in The Beast. Tonight is my last night in New Zealand, and although I am excited for Australia I am sad to leave this beautiful, uncrowded country! It's hard to believe that 40 days have already come and gone.... I have jumped out of an airplane, improved my kayaking skills, rafted down a HUGE waterfall (and didn't fall out :), bungy jumped three times in one day, hiked, camped, wore the same clothes over and over... and over, conquered fears AND mountains, understand showers are a privilege,realize my fee...

DAY 5 - March 5th Monday We made our flight to Christchurch , which included a brief stop in Wellington to collect our luggage, clear customs and catch another flight. We were able to take a bus directly into the city center. Our bus driver impressed us by stopping the bus to assist some bike riding sightseers with directions. The room at the YMCA is clean and secure and close to everything. Dinner was Irish lamb stew with Guinness at an Irish pub. The stew as excellent and loaded with lamb....

Chrischurch recibe su nombre tras el colegio en Oxford asi que todo es muy ingles. A pesar de esto nos ha gustado, se siente muy tranquila y con historia. Las calles estan llenas de nombres familiares; los jardines con sus estatuas son realmente un lujo donde sentarse a leer o de picnic; el rio esta lleno de barquitas llamadas "punts" al mas puro estilo Cambridge; el area donde se concentran todas los movimientos artisticos de la ciudad esta llena de puestos de artesania, productos del pais, ...
