I stayed in quite a nice room with single beds and just two other people. A nice change from crappy bunks in many other hostels. I can't really say any more than that. I barely stayed one night, having to get up at 3.30am to go to the airport.

Excellent backpacker accommodation here in Christchurch. Well run with plenty of facilities and even it's own restaurant with full menu. If you prefer you can always cook your own in there well equipped kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms to wash up and lounge areas to sit and relax or watch a bit of TV. Very clean and comfortable for young and old alike.

the long and short of it is: good for one night and one night only. the place just has a depressing feel about it. its a huge hostel that's really dingey and dated and in need of investment. the kitchen was pretty much unusable...apparently a new one was going to be fitted. overpriced.

The best thing about this place is probably the location. After the earthquake destroyed much of the city centre (including centrally located backpackers), this is probably the best choice if you want to stay close to the city centre. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, though the rooms were very basic and could have more power plugs (in a 10-bed-room there were only 6 power plugs, and none at all in the bathrooms). A Robert Harris Café is attached to the hostel for breaky or morning coffee (including 30 minutes of free wifi!!). I found the hostel's atmosphere rather anonymous and not that inviting, so I hung out mostly in the botanic gardens next door. There's not much to see in Christchurch after the earthquake. The city centre (red zone) is completely closed up.

this hostel needs serious renovations - the kitchen is tiny and very ill-equipped, the tv rooms are old and run down with old tv sets, the rooms remind me of a hospital. the decor is faded and dull. the staff were unhelpful. generally unclean place. i would definitely NOT recommend staying here.

With the wind all gone....lol! Fuelled up with breaky. 8.30am we were on the road for our last long car journey of our whole New Zealand road tripping adventures. 3 hr trip to Christchurch. Only stopping once to swap drivers we made good time when arriving in Christchurch. YMCA in city centre was to be our last day and night in this beautiful …

This morning we were setting off at 9am on the bus to go to Christchurch for a night so when the sun woke us up a bit earlier than planned we got out of bed and after packing our bags we had breakfast and a coffee in the lodge common room area over looking the lake. At some point during the night I had knocked my phone off the top bunk where I was …

          Hallo allemaal,

na twee dagen zat de tijd in Wanaka erop. De bus richting Queenstown vertrok in de ochtend en stopte eerst bij Puzzling World; een aan puzzels en illusies gewijde attractie. We finally arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand after 52 hrs of travel, which included an overnight at the airport in LAX and another overnight on an overseas flight. Here we picked up our pop-top, 2 berth campervan. This was luxury camping for us as it includes a sink, fridge, stove and bed in the back. We had to head out of Christchurch immedi...
