Excellent backpacker accommodation here in Christchurch.

Excellent backpacker accommodation here in Christchurch. Well run with plenty of facilities and even it's own restaurant with full menu. If you prefer you can always cook your own in there well equipped kitchen. Plenty of bathrooms to wash up and lounge areas to sit and relax or watch a bit of TV. Very clean and comfortable for young and old alike.

the long and short of it is: good for one night and one night only. the place just has a depressing feel about it. its a huge hostel that's really dingey and dated and in need of investment. the kitchen was pretty much unusable...apparently a new one was going to be fitted. overpriced.

Great location, but would probably stay somewhere else next time

The best thing about this place is probably the location. After the earthquake destroyed much of the city centre (including centrally located backpackers), this is probably the best choice if you want to stay close to the city centre. The rooms and bathrooms were clean, though the rooms were very basic and could have more power plugs (in a 10-bed-room there were only 6 power plugs, and none at all in the bathrooms). A Robert Harris Café is attached to the hostel for breaky or morning coffee (including 30 minutes of free wifi!!). I found the hostel's atmosphere rather anonymous and not that inviting, so I hung out mostly in the botanic gardens next door. There's not much to see in Christchurch after the earthquake. The city centre (red zone) is completely closed up.

this hostel needs serious renovations - the kitchen is tiny and very ill-equipped, the tv rooms are old and run down with old tv sets, the rooms remind me of a hospital. the decor is faded and dull. the staff were unhelpful. generally unclean place. i would definitely NOT recommend staying here.

We left Lake Tekapo in the sleety snow at about half 8 this morning. We couldn't eat our porridge as we had no sugar to go with it and lets face it you can't eat bare porridge. We got on the bus with all seven other people and left for Christchurch. After half an hour or so we said goodbye to the majestic mountains as we entered the plains of …

We had another early morning bus today. Adrienne and I stayed up watching a movie last night, and then right before we went to bed,....we bundled up, and slipped outside to see the magnificent sky. You would not believe how jet black the sky was. There were a kazillion stars brightly twinkling. It was probably the most stars …

We headed back to Christchurch today so I've now come full circle. Emily and Rosie left the bus today to get their flights which was sad :-( We had a look around the town but there isn't much to see at the moment as they are still rebuilding after the 2011 earthquake. We had a quick visit to the botanical gardens and then headed back to the hostel …

The gorgeous surrounding scenery was covered in cloud and rain this morning in Hawea.

A bit of a miserable morning but there’s bright blue skies yonder. YAY looks like it’s going to be another perfect day. Today we make our way slowly back over to Christchurch and the YMCA Hostel.

After the peace and quiet of Doubtful and Milford Sounds, coming back to Queenstown certainly wakes you up! It was lovely to have a day free there before picking up the Kiwi Experience bus again though, and I also met up with Amanda, a fellow traveller from the North Island. Amanda and I had a relaxing day taking the steamboat over to the other …
