More days on the bus and the Akaroa
I wasn't sure on what to expect given it’s the party capital of NZ, but Queenstown is lovely. Surprise surprise it is set at the bottom of a stunning mountain range, the Remarkables and another blue glacier fed lake. The town itself is bigger than the small sleepy places we’ve been to, but is hardly a large place. We had a …
Hello, New Zealand!
I'll be honest- my first impression of New Zealand, unfortunately wasn’t the greatest. I landed in Christchurch late Saturday evening, and caught the shuttle to my hostel in New Brighton, a suburb outside the city.
I spent the next morning exploring the town, most of which was closed due to it being a Sunday, but then found myself …
Akaroa is the bowl of a former volcano
The harbor shows all the beautiful shear walls that mark its former life as the inside of a volcano. The village was settled both by the Bristish and the French within 2 weeks of each other so they both have lived side by side in peace for over a century or more. The tales of the battles between the chiefs of the Maori tribes are gruesome and they …
Akaroa
The first day of rain was upon us - very depressing. Akaroa should have been a great place to visit. We booked a boat trip to see the hectors dolphins but this was cancelled - our first bit of bad luck - we were too disheartened as had been lucky with the weather all throughout New Zealand up until now. We stayed at the hostel and played yahtzee, …
From Scotland to France, by way of England
Friday March 19th It turns out that if I had left yesterday and gone like a bat out of hell up the coast I would have been able to see Meat Loaf's final concert of his world tour in Christchurch. Instead I decided to stay in Dunedin to see the penguins and albatrosses, but not the world's steepest street. I wasn't sad, as two out of three ain't bad …

For such a nice accommodating town I found the service at this hostel to be secondary. There was a weekend manager and she was great and helped me out a lot but during the day in the week I found them to be pretty rude and always busy so they put you aside.

Right on main street you can't get any more convenient. The staff is very friendly and the home, though not big, has more room outside in a beautiful garden setting. The owners are hands on and frequently on site. They have plenty of staff to take care of all guests requests.

really nice hostel- no locks on the doors but the whole area is basically enclosed. Really nice staff except for one American bitch. Otherwise, good atmosphere and really nice quarters for hanging out.
