Santiago... We love Chile's Capital!

Eager, excited, and up-for-it... we are here in Santiago and we love it!! After our chilled out train ride drinking frothy coffees, we reached Estacion Central far quicker than we imagined. An easy metro ride to Los Heroes and we were at our hostel, the Che Lagarto and very good it is too we should add. We have decided to write this entry together, mainly because Lynsey isn't otherwise engaged (craft markets, shopping, lying in bed or eating chocolate! or more usually doing the last two while...

Rainy Rio Days & Mucho Malbec in Mendoza!!

Hello, Here´s our update from when we left you last in Pucon, Chile. We absolutely loved it there and were meant to spend only 2 days but it turned into 7. We had a brand new fantastic hostel which used to be a nunnery with a swimming pool, sauna, hammocks, a jacuzzi in our bathroom and a view of the smoking, snow covered volcano. There was also a huge bear like dog called Matteo who ignored everyone except Damo, and got very excited and tried to climb on his back everytime he saw him!! Like ...

The Photogenic Capital City

Arriving in Santiago, I discovered a city that is organized, modern, and architecturally photogenic. And just a few kilometers away sits the second highest mountain range in the world, The Andes. It's a nice city to walk around and take photos of all the buildings and stuff. The only downside, is there's a problem with all the smog that hangs over the city. I didn't realize this until I went up a hill called San Cristobal that has a great view over the city. It was definitely not so easy to s...

Back to Puerto Varas and on to Santiago

Friday 3rd Pt Varas. We left at 11am after a lovely home cooked brekkie of pancakes and eggs. We drove a long day up through the beautiful country side before arriving at a waterfall area and our lodging a dilapidated YHA resort. However we cooked steaks on the BBQ , we enjoyed our group meal and lovely Chilean red wine. Saturday 4th April . We packed and left by 8am as we were driving almost non stop to Santiago. It was a long day and most of it on the Pan-American Highway so mainly a big ro...

5th capital city

Just a couple days in Santiago - but I squeezed in as much sight-seeing as possible =) Walked around the city...just looking around. Tried to take pics of the Chilean flag...it´s almost identical to the Texas state flag. Have you ever tried to take a pic of a flag fluttering in the breeze...not as easy as it sounds!!!

Went to up to the top of Cerro Santa Lucia (a big hill). Rode a FUNicular...and it was FUN =) Great views of the city from the top...and in South American style, atop th...

Time Travelling

So after a few months of easiness we are back in fun places... Language issues, extreme heat, cheapness and off course getting ripped off at the airport! We have got soft, annoying as we walk 10 mins to save a dollar, then pay 5 times the odds for a cab cos not paying attention. Three days mostly spent sleeping off our christmas indulgences, and dealing with crossing the International Date Line. Santiago isnt as bad as people make out. We have had a pretty decent time here. Not a great deal t...

Buenos Tardes from SOUTH AMERICA

So here I am in South America! OLA! After NO SLEEP and an 11 hour sweet flight. Met a couple of girls from Ireland at the airport and found this hostel with them after getting RIPPED OFF in the taxi (payed over three times the going rate - oh well!). In the airport I felt as rebellious as a smoker in a cinema...why? Not wearing a mask of course! It was a bit surreal. The airport workers at the front line all had em as well as a good few passengers. So - arrived at a first hostel and it was fu...

At home in Santiago, Vina del Mar and Valparaiso

... nails, facials, massages etc...by the end of about 6 hours of pampering we were ready for bed, we had a lovely dinner at a cute cafe on Providencia and went to sleep...the best nights sleep in a long time! The next day we took a trip 140km west of Santiago on the Pacific coast, to the neighboring towns of Vina del Mar (Vina) and Valparaiso (Valpo), they are like opposite sides of the same coin. Vina del Mar, the 'Garden City,' is one of Chile's ...
