Rude Mood

Tuesday 6th September 2011

I had a read through some of the earlier chapters a few days ago, remembering all the stuff I did and people I met. The purpose was just to compare how I felt at the time to how I look back on it all now. Of course, I view Canada through rose tinted specs, even the bits that weren't so great at the time, like the …

Montevideo Round Dos

Originally, our plan was to return to Buenos Aires on either a ferry or an overnight bus. Unfortunately, however, due to our bus breaking down multiple times and causing a few hours of delay we missed both of those options. At the bus terminal we purchase our tickets for the next days travel back to B.A. then we took the public bus in to town to …

In love in the morning, over it by the afternoon

So next country to tick off my list - Uruguay. From what I saw outside the bus window, I could have almost as easily been sitting on a bus in Australia - lots of farmland with windbreaks (there were several with eucalyptus) and not a huge number of cars. One thing different about this bus was that despite being a normal sized bus, it was only 3 …

We spent one night here. The facilities were fine but joking special. The staff was less than friendly.

More of the same

As all the Che Lagarto Hostels around South America, they have the ridiculous exchange rates if you don't want to pay in USD (US$1 = URU$21 really its about 19) so you always have to add a dollar or two onto the amazing rate they tell you the room is (or walk round the corner to one of the many exchange places as I saw the next day). Kitchen was OK, breakfast was good (did have fruit, cornflakes, jam, juice etc.) Bit noisy to sleep sometimes and they haven't got enough lockers.
