Today, the adventure really began. I said good bye to the U.S. and flew to Cancun via Atlanta and Indianapolis. As luck would have it, I sat next to Lily and Carolina from Merida, Mexico. They were visiting friends in the US and had each been exchange students several years ago in the US and Canada. They had a friend picking them up at the airport to give them a ride to the bus station and offered me a ride downtown. I gladly accepted since I read that a taxi is quite expensive. Thank you onc...
Cancun, Mexico jeffsadventuresSaid our goodbyes to peeps at the hostel, including Rat's wenchie who turned up for the tearfull farewell with her child. Then one hour minibus trip up the coast to party capital of Mexico, the little America that is Cancun. Chacmool hostel was very different from last one, only a four person dorm - but clientel were mostly a load of loud people on a nine day bender, who enjoyed making noise outside our room til 3am. But then what would you expect cominh here?! Spent Easter Sunday on the ra...
Cancun, Mexico mothman
We made it to Mexico after 30 hours of travel. We had a great feast of mexican last night while listening to a mariachi band play and the flambe waiters make all sorts of desserts, coffees and lobster. It felt great to sit in the humid heat and be on vacation.
My pina coloada was the length of my arm! Watched Buffalo clobber ...
Sooo......
We heard from the people at our Hostel that we would not like Cancun beacuse it was too touristy. I figured how bad can it be, it should have a nice beach, I can drink beer and walk around and look at stores.
Wrong! We eventually stopped going to any stores because the people were too aggressive trying to sell you things. This is the only time this happened to us in Mexico. It was driving us insane we ...
The alarm went off at 7 a.m. and I did NOT want to get up. I need a vacation away from my vacation. It was the last day of our month long trip and we were on a mad dash to squeeze as much into the day as possible. Off to the Gran Cenote, 3.7 km away from Tulum town. Luckily we caught a colectivo headed towards Valladolid that gave us a lift to an ATM and hitchhiked the remainder of the way in the back of a pickup truck.
We were the first ones there at 8 a.m. The sun wasn't out ...
... and were pretty unimpressed hard to beat home and Fiji... There seemed to be a lot of bleaching or just coral damage maybe from the most recent hurricane, there were lots of cool fish though. And we got lunch included BBQ fish very nice! The 20th we hired a little golf cart and cruised the island it only went about 30km an hour so was pretty funny. We also checked out the ruins on ...
- Men stranden er offentlig - No Problemos !
Cancun, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico j.knudsen... do something about it like give us extra towels (hotel fully booked so we couldn't move). Eventually we managed to get 5 extra towels (which it turns out were all of their extra towels!). I had happened to mention to my tour leader the previous evening that I wanted to get a copy of the new Harry Potter in English. When I got on the bus in the morning she presented me with a copy that she'd managed to find at the supermarket! So ...
Tehuantepec to Cancun, Mexico monkey_moore... a bill of 150, 50 and 30 using a calcualator, even after checkin 2 times she wanted 250 pesos until we showed her how to use the calculator. But i guess it was our day to loose somethin, as Kyle got mugged on the bus after fallin asleep, realising later that night that his phone and 100 bucks were gone. He took it well though, and refrained from taking it out on the security guard of one of the resorts that spoils an almost perfect beach, when they yet ...
