Travel Blogs from New York City
IT'S CHIRSTMAS DAY!!! I'm in the Holiday Inn, Seacaucus, NJ. I'll have to jump back and summarise my last week in New York - it was so busy the blog sort of fell by the wayside a little. So we'll go back to Saturday we got up and went for breakfast at a cafe a few blocks up. Zanny's Cafe, it wasn't quite so Zanny though just a cute little corner …
From arriving in Manhatten we have had to negotiate our way around the subway system. Because we are trying to squeeze in everything New York has to offer it is quicker and easier to just get to the destination then have a look around the neighbourhood. Trouble is the Subway in Manhatten is an impossible tangle of tracks and lines some of which are …
We've been in the Central Park hostel for four days now. It started with a trip to lower Manhatten - The plan was to start at the bottom and work our way up. We took the number1 Subway to the very bottom of Manhatten - South Ferry terminal. Rather than joining in with the Tourists on the boat trip over to Liberty & Ellis islands we chose to …

So apparently it's going to be diary format. How exciting! I got off the plane, did the standard airport boring stuff and got on the metro. And just like I've been told to expect I was the only one that was white. I'm not gonna lie, panic set in pretty quickly on this first day. From "Where's my wallet!?" to "Can they tell I'm scared?!" to "It's …

Saved the Day
After having a horrible time at Big Apple Hostel, our saving grace was Central Park Hostel, which turned out to be a Wonderful little place that was VERY clean and cute. It was located very close to the subway and was just a block away from Central Park.
I went there with the worst expectations ever, and the place turned out to be pretty neat and decent. The location is excellent. I thought that the staff were quite helpful. Obviously it's no luxury hotel, but hey, i was only looking for a place to shower and sleep. Me and my friend had a twin room right next to the bathroom, so it could be a bit noisy, other than that the room was clean and so was the bathroom. I had a wicked time, and would consider staying there again in the future, especially if i'm on a budget holiday
it's the worst hostel that i've ever been! i had huge trouble because inside of it someone stole my bag but people who work there didn't want to help me! woman in reception is always busy. after it was happened nobody wanted to talk with me. it was suspect... be careful if you choose this hostel
I am the scoutmaster for a boyscout troop, and we took 8 boys down to tour New York. We had 2 rooms booked at an area hotel, but when we arrived, the hotel clerk got our reservation screwed up and had us checking in 2 days later. Naturally, the night we got there he had no more rooms. I made a call to the hostel, and the more than pleasant receptionist offered us a room with 10 bunks. We took that room and headed to the hostel not knowing what to expect. Fantastic!!! The place was phenominal. In New York, you couldn't ask for a better place to stay on a budget. There was plenty of room in each individual room, the place was clean, neat, no odor. The rec room downstairs was enjoyable for the boys. There was a pool table and a foos ball table. We had to share bathrooms, but at any hostel I have ever stayed at, this is always the case. Nonetheless, they were clean, and all 8 boys showered and had plenty of hot water. The hostel was quite a bit uptown, but the subway was 1/2 block down the road and from there we could go anywhere. The hostel sits 1 block from Central Park. You can bet we will visit again in the future!
A friend and I shared a twin private room that was very basic and could just fit the two beds and a locker. There were a few bathrooms on each floor however, some of these were falling apart and not that clean. There were often queues in the morning for the showers; however, we did get clean towels and our beds made everyday.
One of the couple of good things about this hostel was the location. Get off the subway and it's just a few steps up the block. Even on the outside, it didn't very good.. plus there were kinda shady-looking people on that street hanging out on their porches as I walked to it.
This hostel make me feel so welcom and very comfortable! YOU THE BEST!!! Only one block from central park and the subway station. The front desk always help us with any question. it will be nice to have more bathrooms. but anyway i have nothing bad to say about it. I will will stay there anytime.
Confused but nice receptionist who didn't seem sure of anything, Key which dosen't work. Screaming permanent tenant on level 5 whom goes to bed at 8pm each night and hurls abuse at anyone who accidently closes the door too loud or happens to talk or giggle in the hallway. My roomates were actually scared of this person. There are no towels, (can't even hire one). Bed linen had bloodstains, there was no pillow on my bed and when one was asked for - a stained, uncovered pillow was received. A guy wandering around in casual clothes turned out to be the Security guard but there is nothing about him to indicate he is the Security person (he looks like a traveller), even though he is very helpful and nice. I would recommend that you don't expect a lot but it is close to the subway and central park. The bathrooms are modern-ish.
After 5 months on the road ,around the world . We are going home tonight it has been great and we have seen lots of places and lots of hostels. This being the last hostel we stayed at ,we are very satisfied with the rooms beds ,facilities and personal! no doudt the central park hostel the best hostel in the usa as far as we know . The worst one in the world was actually in Washington D.C thank you for a good three nights and days in New york and for all the help we got when we asked our stupid questions ! JERGEN AND BARD MOJLI.
Ok definitely one of the worst hostels i've stayed in. Right from the start, the receptionist was too busy talking on the phone and forgot to give me all the forms and receipts. Then i was told they actually didn't have any more sheets/pillows because the last person took them with them. So I had a bed but no linen, and no door key either - they'd lost it so i had to borrow someone elses. Then when i went to make a phone call in the lounge to my boyfriend i was being sexually harrassed by a psycho staying there. Did i mention i couldn't breathe because of all the weed the other residents were smoking..... some of whom had just crawled in the fire escape - they weren't actually staying there.
Would i recommend it? Take a guess.
