Second leaving Week 3 – 231 kms, $70.54 fuel

... two days there, wandering up and down the shops, sat in the morning sunshine reading the Courier Mail, sipping on a flat white overlooking the Tiaro park. A short stroll back to the motorhome, via a Pub called the Hideaway and yes, it is hidden away from the Bruce Highway, but it is a classic, a one off. And after three beers, continued our walk back to them motorhome. What a lovely stop we had.

We are now in ...

Discovering the coast

... darting around, and some barnacle-like shells attached to the rocks... until one of the shells suddenly got up and wandered across the rock.

So I took a closer look, and discovered...

Hermit crabs!!! Not just dozens, but hundreds of tiny little shells walking across the rocks and sticking out tiny little legs to gather food!

And then I found two larger hermits, having a prolonged battle over ...

aus Bundaberg

Nothing lost (YET) but a few things forgotten

... dates and places... Also I did the right thing and made a copy of all my official stuff, have one with me and emailed the other to myself to then froward to Mum and managed to forget to do that too. I think its time I went on a holiday :P

So After mucking around for weeks I was finally packed (the night before), sent Stinky off to Elise's pet hotel (where he proceeded to make "special friends" with her female kitten), handed over what I could ...

Oh Woe to Bundaberg

Okay, so I officially hate Bundaberg. Actually, I hated Bundaberg within about five minutes of arriving. The first problem was the information centre. Most towns have glorious sign posts for kilometres, telling you where the information centre is and how to get there, but not in Bundaberg! Here, there is one woeful sign saying the information centre in 400m ahead... which appears only after you have already driven through most of the town ...

Oh, Woe to Bundaberg!

... where the heck it is.

Then there are the caravan parks. The first one offered me the privilege of pitching my tent on an unpowered site for the bargain price of $30 per night!! (average price in other towns is $15-20). The next one offered to let me squish my tent onto a site the size of my thumb print, wedged in between lots of other campers, and then I finally found a third park, which had no unpowered sites, but offered me a powered one ...

Turtles, Turtles Everywhere!

... In the meantime, a ranger gave a slide show and talked to us about how the park came about. FINALLY our group was called up and I was first in line. We walked in dark down the beach and our turtle had already made her nest. The rangers wait until she has laid a few eggs, then they allow the visitors in and they examine her. They said that she knows we are there next to her, but as she is in the middle of laying around 120 eggs, there is no turning back and she just ...

Tropical Island - Lady Elliot

... a 30min trip in a 10 seater plane from Hervy Bay. Arrived on a warm but windy day and settled in to our 6 bunk room. The island is like a school camp, with better food and a bar. It has a rec room, ping pong, informative walks and quiz nights - suited us just fine. The main event and attraction of course was underwater. We made it into the water on the afternoon of our second day. It was a little cooler than we had hoped so we opted ...

Living in Bundy

... lying on the hospital bed for too long in the wrong positions; jacked up on all those pillows when the back needs to be supported in a more upright position. The ENT man was great, the hospital was great, all the nursing staff were great and poor JJ was the best. JJ hired a car to travelled in and out everyday to be with me, he bought me some sexy PJ's (Sesame Street characters) from Best and Lest and he even did my washing and the house cleaning on the boat before I came ...

Avokadoja Childersissa
