... in standstill traffic and a human crush to get into the metro station. After a pretty scary 15 minutes we finally made it down to the metro platform and were on a train. However, the inebriated crowds also found their way onto the train and we spent the next 30 minutes being serenaded by loud Brazilian men chanting football songs, pounding the roof of the train and the occasional whiff of smoke from illegal substances. New Year's Day started in the afternoon for Kirst and I and so we headed to Ipanema beach to watch the sunset and happened upon a Brazilian band which was a great addition.

Our highlight of Rio was a run along the beach front to Aporador, a rocky outcrop between Copacabana and Ipanema. Drinking Caprinha's and watching the sun set.
