... Rio, taking just over an hour, and we were met by a private driver, Pedro, who took us to our hotel. The street was closed off and police were everywhere so we were a bit concerned. However it turned out that a U.S. pop group, Fifth Harmony, was staying in the hotel opposite us and a huge crowd of largely young girls were gathered in the street and screaming whenever they saw something at the window.

Beach and sat on a bar right on the beach drinking the local drink Caiprianha... made of sugarcane, lemon juice and something that tasted like tequila.... one drink and the world is a wonderful place. ... slept for the remaining 7ish hours. The second we landed, rob started to feel sick. And since one of our rucksacks had had to be stowed nearer the back where there was more room, we were the last ones off the plane and he had to hold it in till we found a toilet. Off to a good start! We then had to wait in line for half an hour to go through passport control.
Once through, we found the address of our hostel in amongst our paperwork and showed this to a taxi driver outside ...
