It was a good, not great hostel. It was in a great location right behind the famous castle and located within walking distance of a bunch of other stuff to do. It was decorated all over with famous Scottish art and relics. Huge kitchen area with plenty of storage so you can save on food costs and the wifi worked in the rooms. My main complaint was the bed was like 4 sheets of paper and after walking around all day, it felt terrible to sleep on. I don't have back problems. I did while over there. Other than that though it was a good hostel. Would recommend to someone.

We spent a few nights in June 2013 at Castle Rock Hostel. It was easy to find, and incredibly cool! It really feels epic. The grand staircase in the foyer is just the start. The rooms are all named after characters in popular culture, and I was Sherlock Holmes, which was quite the thrill, let me tell you.
Overall it's a great place to stay. The staff are very nice and accommodating, and the location is absolutely perfect. The Castle is right outside your door!

On this trip, I visited Edinburgh Castle, Mary King's Close, and the Royal Botanic Garden.

The Royal Botanic Garden is a place in Edinburgh dedicated to the scientific study of plants. It was built in 1670 at St. Anne's Yard, originally as a physic garden to grow plants used in the line of medicine. Today it is located in 3 other sites …

    Edinburgh, Scotland

First thing about Edinburgh, it is OLD. It's like walking around a renaissance fair. The castle is unmissable, just a giant building on a huge rock right in the middle of town, that was convenient because my hostel was right behind it so no getting lost. Did the free walking tour as usual. It was pretty cool. My guide was wearing a kilt. …

Long day yesterday. Got up at 8, had breakfast at hostel for 1 pound fifty (thats how they say one pound and fifty pence, for you yanks). Granola cereal, bread, juice. Walked around entrance to Edinburgh castle but did not enter. Instead went on 1100 walking tour down and about royal mile. Saw various things, including St. Giles Cathedral, and a …

Arrived in plane this morning to Glasgow Airport. Was quizzed by Scottish customs official about my life; how I have enough money to do this trip if I'm techinically unemployed, what I plan to study at University next year. Not sure why that's relevant for entrance to the UK but then again I am not a customs official so I do not know.

    From the Abbey to Edinburgh

The Westminster Abbey was amazing. Unfortunately, I could only take pictures with my eyes and keep them in my memory. I went on a guided tour and listened to every story she told. England's history goes very far back and there were too many kings and queens that have come and gone that it was hard to keep up. We were able to sit in the seats that …
