cheap hostel, small dorm rooms, very clean, friendly staff, FREE WIFI. 15-20min walk to city but nice to be further out as quiet and not a party hostel. enjoyed my stay here. rooms can be very warm if you dont pay the $1 per 3hr aircon.

It's not very close to downtown, but that is pretty much the only downside. (They try to make up for the distance with a free shuttle to the city center at different times in the day). Otherwise, it's cheap and the free dinner is nice, even if the options never change.

We flew from Melbourne to Cairns which was a three and a half hour flight. The temperature and humidity in Cairns was crazy, we couldn't cope very well so spent most of our time looking for ways to cool down.
We booked a full day trip snorkelling on the Great Barrier and it was fantastic. The visibility was amazing. We were very close to the …

    G'day!

So after a final 5 hour drive on the greyhound we arrived at our final destination on the East Coast, Cairns. We walked to our hostel, Castaways, and checked into a double room (bit of luxury!) with a shared bathroom (not so luxurious!). The next morning was the first day of our PADI course (diving qualification) where we met our …
