... it. You could see the many beautiful castles out on the countryside. One of the best views ever! I do wish I would of had time to climb the Duomo, but hopefully next time.

At about 2.30pm we were dropped off at our hotel. We immediately went for a swim at the Hotel Pool and it was lovely. It was a deep pool and not many guests were using it. After 45 minutes and tossing Jackie into the Pool with a towel around her, we went back to our room for a bit of relaxation and diary catch-up.

We woke up early this morning because we all wanted to have enough time to see the Duomo. It was the most prominent building in Florence and it wouldn't be a proper trip without seeing it. We packed up all our things and had breakfast, where I was able to talk to Jonathan for a little bit. ... 10:20pm, I heard the first deep sizzle, followed seconds later by a deep bang. The only issue was that I saw nothing -- it turns out that they were lighting off the fireworks so far down the river that, from my position, you could not see them over the bridge.



Immediately, hundreds of people around me took off for the bridge and the nearby Uffizi, hoping to catch a glimpse of the show, for the other side of the bridge ...
