Southern Nicoya Peninsula Santa Teresa, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica
Once the hippie-scene of Montezuma lost its novelty, Jaime and I set our sights on the nearby surfer town of Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa is right next door to another beach town called Mal Pais. They actually merge into one another as a spectacular beach that is about 10K in total. I don't know much about surfing, but I think its safe to say that the breaks along this edge of the peninsula are *****in'. I say this because the waves looked really big...at least compared to what I'm used to on t...
Santa Teresa, Province of Puntarenas, Costa Rica farrahfigThinking that the waves in Tamarindo had maybe been a tad too easy for us all, we decided to leave Montezumo and the Hostel of Horrors and drive the 10km up to coast to Santa Teresa near Mal Pais where the waves are supposed to be much bigger. And they were .... much much bigger!
As we bumped our way along the road we realized that this was a Costa Rican 10km i.e: every sign seemed to give arbitrary remaining distances. So the journey took a little longer than ...
... costa rica, they start talking to you in english: ima-roooooooooos-teeer! eat yer yoooooog-urt! let's go suuuurf-ing!
4. it is small town living. we see people we "know" any time we walk (or bike) down the main road (the only road). margarete owns cafe baraka and is the object of affection for Juan from playa guoines (he owns the surf cabinas we stayed at while road tripping). alejandro is one of the bakers in town and he also ...
... It had seating for maybe 30. We were the first people there. Our waiter was a boy from New Jersey. He told us he really liked living in Mal Pais, but who wouldn’t. The menu was on a chalkboard that the waiter brought to the table and walked through every item on the menu.
Most of us had fish or pasta. The girls and I had electric lemonade (mint lemonade) with our meal. They served some fresh humus and pita bread. The food was some of ...
... storage area 5 ft from the fire. Anyway long story short we saved the day the real bomberos came an hour later (montezuma is very remote) and they determined that it was safe to have a fiesta caliente, so we took photos on the fire truck and called it good. thats one evening in the life... There´s a lot so ill cut to the chase as much as my story telling ability lets me give abridged versions of anything. with in one hour of getting the the pacific costal ...
montezuma, Costa Rica bassmanms... had been robbed.... while 4 people were a sleep in it! Turns out the robbers came in and actually carried out the whole stack of safes in the corner which had a few people most valuable things in it. Quite shocking really. This one poor chap sliced open his foot the other day so he cant surf for his last week and now lost all his cards and passport etc. Evil! Well im going to head off now, last days so i've got to make the most of it all! Bye for now Karl
Santa Teresa, Costa Rica chalk... pga forsikringen. Pura vida!
Montezuma, Costa Rica _aarolilja... sand coastline, huge waves and beautiful sunsets it being on the west coast. the town itself is rather unspectacular, no real nightlife, but we stayed at a hostel so we met us some surfers and got drunk and silly with them that night ;) good times, esp with a community kitchen - outside, nice and tropical - in which we made some good breakfast the next morning to prepare us all for the beach. the water was amazing, the waves were amazing and it held up to its ...

Montezuma, Costa Rica tugatz... day... The morning started off with bad surf, junk conditions and Cali surfers in the water. So we decided to head into town to pull out some much needed $$ *the town we're in has no ATM* but when we got to Cabano, about 30 minutes later, the ATM didn't work. We tried our best to ask around in Spanish where the next ATM was, but no one could answer us. Now we were in real trouble! Almost everywhere only accepts cash in town and we ...
