... things again.

On the way back along the path to the horses for the next part of the day saw a large dark brown snake sunbathing on the bridge and became convinced it was poisonous. Skillfully avoided that looking forward to our complementary lemonade at the ranch when we got back only to find the smallest glass of it, another torture to bear. After this were treated to another long horseback ride into a river with horses which was great fun, poor things were looking ...

Habana

Over the years I've copped a bit of flack over my travel map as it shows only Asia, Europe and the Middle East. It's not that the Americas don't interest me, I've just never got around to going. There has been so much to see, but I do realise that there is more to the world, so I had a surf and after a few discussions, I booked a couple of tickets to Cuba.

... but the water passes through some kind of warming device that does the trick so no hot water tanks are used. I had the additional benefit of getting a little electrical "buzz" whenever I used it and considering that the voltage is 240 here, it was a bit of an adventure to a take shower but I hope that the twitches I get now will not be permanent LOL. I never thought I would find adventure in the shower but it just goes to show that anything is possible. I will ...

Havana, our first few days.

Our first day in Havana, was just pure sensory overdrive. After being delayed at the airport for over 13 hours due to mechanical issues or Hurricane Gustav, we finally arrived in Havana on Friday August 29th, 1 day late. Throughout my travels across the world I must say that I have never seen anything such as this amazing city. As we we walked outside our hotel room, we were just amazed at all the beauty, the architecture as well as all the erosion and corrosion that ...

I boarded the plane, Cubana Airlines from Bahamas. Immigration in Cuba would ask for your accomodations in Cuba and if you want a stamp on your passport. I opted not to. Perhaps, next time I will. Maybe, I should go back. At the airport, there you would see Russian made airplanes like Tupolev for Cubana. There's not much vehicles on the road and bus is the mode of transportation. The sight of old American vehicles ...

... up residence for a while. The past couple of days I have been really not liking Havana during the day, and loving it at night time, music blearing from every window, cheap cheap cheap mojitos, good cigars (I managed to get a box of Cubans for about a third of the RRP, they 'fell' off the back of the truck, well actually the guy that works at the factory just stole them. Long story short - we were at hotel having some cocktails when I asked the barman how much, and ...

Charles: No, no, it's OK now, it's not squealing anymore...it's in pieces...wait...it's a funny story...wait... Cuban time is different from what I'm used to. This means that if your train is scheduled for 9:30 AM, it may show at 10:30 AM, if at all. Heading into the depot office, I hope to purchase my train ticket, $10 CUC. Back outside ...

Cuba!!

Well Holy God! What an experience! A place where the "Republic" is female, Che is constantly smiling at you and the people are still living the revolution. I think that it is a place that will change very soon though, so very interesting to see now. But I´m not sure which way it will go.... Anyway, La Habana is a huge city that must have been one of the most beautiful in the ´50s, and tofay the streets are like living museums with the famous American cars ...
