the best part about casa oro is that any tour or surf trip you want is offered here. this way you just have to walk to the front desk instead of a travel agent.

Pricey for a budget, but still great

The room is $8/night as opposed to the $6 my guidebook had led me to believe, but along with that comes free breakfast, so I justify the price increase for the included breakfast. The dorms are clean and spacious, and the beds are in fantastic shape. When you check in you are handed your linens so that you know that the sheets you are sleeping on are actually clean. There are both upstairs and downstairs rooms, a computer room, a common area, and an open kitchen. Each dorm has its own bathroom so you're only sharing a bathroom with the people you share a room with, and not the entire hostel. The bathrooms are reasonably clean. There are lockers beside the dorm rooms so that you can secure your belongings. And best of all, the hostel is a very quick walk from the beach!

I'm very satisfied with this hostel so far. They have all sorts of excursions at reasonable prices, from surfing to sea turtle watching.

In the morning I felt far from perfect but not as bad as I thought I would. I had another great Nicaraguan breakfast at the hostel and then waited anxiously for the England - Iceland game. In the meantime I walked up to the Jesus statue which, itself was average, but offered a great view of San Juan. The journey up was boiling and lacked any sort …

Sunday Funday! I was woken up at 6.50 with a cold beer and told to drink it, which I hesitantly did. We headed downstairs for the Ireland - France match and had a few beers. After the game we went to Pacha Mamas to buy our tickets and then headed back for a few more beers and the Germany match. Once all the football was done, we started boozing and …

We got an early start to get to San Juan in decent time. I was very grateful to be leaving little Mogan's by now, especially after the pigs had done their 4th 5am raid of our dorm! The three of us headed off with Alex and an Irish couple to get the 9 o clock ferry which, upon arrival, we found out had been delayed to 10. We sat around chatting with …

I woke up feeling grim but made it just in time for the free Nicaraguan breakfast at the hostel. After, I watched some of the Euros and had a beer to try and ease the hangover. It worked like a charm. For the rest of the afternoon we did very little other than going to get a wrap for lunch and an ice cream. We watched a lot more football and …

          The rat

So, I need to do another entry, and I will but this deserves to stand by itself. My roommate, Griffin, is also writing a blog and I want to give him credit for the following entry which I have stolen 100%. He is quite the writer and this rat story.... Priceless. ---------------- It is not without its problems though. The walk home at night down ...
