Av Perotti S/N Huacachina, Peru
Today we said good bye to Paracas and caught the Cruz Del Sur bus to Ica (1 hour). From Ica we took a taxi the 5km out to Huacachina.
Huacachina is a small lagoon/oasis nestled in amongst the sand dunes. Back in the 1940s it was a place were the rich came to relax as the mud in the lagoon was meant to have healing qualities - now it is where backpackers come to soak up the sun and drink by the pool.
After we had relaxed by the pool we booked a sand buggy and boarding tour for t...
After breakfast we thought it would be a good idea to climb one of the surrounding sand dunes. Our first attempt was in jandels, however, at 11am and the temperature already at about 26 degrees C already we burnt our feet on the sand after about 15m. Back to the hostel to get tramping shoes, we made it to about halfway (100m vertical) before deciding that the pool was a much better idea.
After an afternoon beside the pool we were ready for our buggy and sand boarding tour. We had opte...

We wanted a bus to Nasca to see the famous Nasca lines in the morning but by 8.30 p.m. they had all left. Luckily, there was a taxi madman with crazy eyes t take us. He took a liking to Suzanna which was also beneficial for Tamara and I as he was willing to take us for a cheaper fare and a few favors from Suz (AKA Zues). It was the most uncomfortable ride but the funniest so far.

The following day we were up bright and early in preparation for the first leg of the Ireland v France game. Good performance by the boys in green but disappointing result.... Muchos cervezas.
On Steve's round, he conveniently felt tired and went to bed however according to Steve the round was over..... Pa decided to go to bed 3 hours later while Brian felt there was still a bit of disco dancing to be done so he ...

Visited the local wineries the next day which was brilliant. Our taxi driver took us to a few commercial wineries and then to a local garage winery come Museum which was really interesting. He actually hopped out and gave us the tour himself in that one. He'd slosh out some foul tasting wine to us, and then jabber on ...
... body. As I felt my weight topple over the peak I hung on for grim death. The ride was surprisingly short but excellent, excellent fun. We did this time and time again over many dunes and laughed as the Soutaris and Plummer brothers continually beat even the best slides by the overweight English.
We ended the day watching the sunset from the top of the dune buggy talking turkey. Laughing at each others outrageous stories, I knew we all felt lucky to be there. I sure as hell did.

... flooring and foundations for some families in town, we helped build timber frames to pour concrete into for some public bathrooms and also mixed, carried and poured cement! The jobs were hard and tough and every morning we seemed to wake up with a new ache or callous that wasn't there the day before!
The houses worked like a little community - every morning we'd meet for breakfast to hear what jobs were on for the day and volunteer for what ...
