Caravella's backpackers was pretty good for the money paid. Me and Lisa had a 6bed dorm with bathroom which we had to ourselves most of the time. There was one other girl in the room but we never saw her except for when we were all sleeping. The facilities are good and the staff are really helpful and we good when it came to helping us arrange excursions and underwater camera rental. The are 2 huge kitchens and each dorm had it's own fridge. Only real downside was that all the communal areas were outside picnic benches and it would have been nice to have something indoor maybe with sofas or something. Pool was nice though and air con in rooms was a life saver.

We had a great time at the Caravella backpackers but unfortunately our bed was one of the worst and it had springs coming through the mattress...apart from this i really liked this hostel. The staff were freindly and very helpful.

      Good - recommended

Very welcoming - air conditioned double room at a reasonable price and good discounts on local food.
Also has a nice small swimming pool and is close enough to the centre of town without being on top of the nightlife. We stayed for four nights when we had only planned 2.

      Just OK

Granted Cairns humidity makes it difficult to keep any hostel comfortable but Caravella just felt old and run down. Service was adequate, facilities were OK. It was just an average experience....thus I would not recommend.

So today saw us travel from Yungaburra back to Cairns. Now we could have taken a simple highway route straight back...but where is the fun in that?!? Following on from my very amusing drive when we left Port Douglas, I found another equally wiggly looking road on the map that circled Lake Tinaroo, which we hadn't seen much of at that point, and …

Today I was off to visit the Atherton Tablelands and waterfalls, another early start! We started the tour at Babinda Boulders which looks so unusual and cool, and then got in to the freezing water at Josephine Falls so that we could slide down one of the falls and in to the water below which was so much fun! Its really fast so we had to hold on to …

Today I'm taking a snorkelling trip to The Great Barrier Reef! I get on the boat and Tom is on the tour too! We decide to be snorkelling buddies so that we can look out for each other and take photos of each other and its a really cool day. We see loads of different fish, beautiful coral and loads of turtles! This is better than what I saw on my …

The next morning we get up late and then have a walk along the beach while we wait for the bus to pick us up. Then its off to the Daintree River for some crocodile spotting! On the way we get ice cream from the Daintree Ice Cream Company with some very interesting but tasty flavours! We see three crocodiles in the river but because its so hot they …

I went to the local market this morning and discovered the true meaning of the word 'bogan'! There was a family running a coffee and snacks stand and there seemed to be husband and wife, both sets of parents and at least four kids; it was just a small stand! And the youngest daughter, who can't have been older than 12, looked very pregnant! All of …
