Hellooo, maybe this entry will be read only by our most devoted readers cause it is now more than a month ago. But who is not interested how it feels like to come near Cape Horn? Well, the last entry dealt with our struggle to find a bus ticket from Rio Gallegos to Ushuaia which claims to be southernmost city of the world. Well, there is a military base on the Chilean side which is a few minutes more south if you let me cite Wikipedia (which is a bad reference how I learned for my Masters). T...
Ushuaia, Argentina tomandbecky... like glue until we got into the stadium!!! This bloke was absolutely massive with loads of tattoos so we were not too worried!
The match was really good but San Lorenzo lost 3-0 so we found ourselves supporting the away side for most of the match!!! The away fans were much more fun anyway. We sat in the middle stand so we could see all the action. On our left were the away fans who were constantly singing, jumping up and down and waving their banners. On our right was the home ...
... around I found it! Most of the streets are very picturesque, almost post card perfect, but if you lose your self and wonder into some unkempt streets it quickly changes from postcard to pisspants.
Waz and I “discovered” this very traditional steak house called Desnivel in La Defensa which is the main street in San Telmo serving the most succulent meat (by “discovered” I mean its in every guide book imaginable). The restaurant is unpretentious, and ...
... to Las Delicias, a "barrio cerrado" (closed neighbourhood). It was beautiful and luxurious. I got kind of mixed feelings, because in a way I think it is good to create beauty that makes people feel good, but on the other hand it is not a sustainable way of living. Caro said that many kids that are brought up in these isolated neighbourhoods get a very narrow view of reality, can understand that.
Tried "pastafrola", a delicious pie with fruit jam. Paula, Caro's sister ...
... we went and saw a GIANT statue of Christopher Columbus! The Mothers of the Disappeared were also doing a talk on protest to the president. After that we caught the subway home. When we got home we played, had dinner, brushed our teeth and went to bed!
Niamhs Story
Today there was no school, because it was independent's day, so we slept in. Then we went to the subte [metro]. Then, for lunch we had SUBWAY! After lunch we saw a MASIVE, hundred year old ...
Volgende keer beter. Tchau!
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina heinlisenka... decided to ditch the tango over a caiprinha. Felt annoyed that we couldnt do the class but we assured ourselves we would take some private ones.. or join another group.. or even go watch a show... YES, we would go watch a show (how **** are we!?) We chatted with our hostel who recommended us a great one nearby but was starting in 15 mins. We hurriedly decided to go and flew to get changed and out within minutes. We arrived at this completly swanky club (we ...
Buenos Aires, Argentina sara.a... I subsequently read Slash´s autobiography to realise that I was nowhere near it!). Upon check-out, I found that I´d drained my wallet of dosh by flushing it into various bars and clubs in the city. In need of money, I took a short trip to the nearest bank. Just 15 minutes later, when I returned to the hostel, I was greeted by a semi-circle of numb faces carrying an expression like they´d just gazed upon a spectral image of Evita. In fact, during the 900 seconds I was out of the building ...
Buenos Aires, Capital Federal District, Argentina deaworldwide... I LOVE empanadas and after eating them for a few weeks I wanted to try and make them myself. They turned out great and we had a great meal - had to make up for the steak the night before. I bet the dogs next door would have eaten some too. Sitting and eating up on the rooftop is so great after dark. It's finally a tolerable temperature.
The next day, Wednesday, we headed downtown to check out the MicroCenter. It's like the ...
... thing-- most people are completely fluent as a result of e.g having lived in Ecuador for a year or being Brazillian- so i think a conversational tutor might be on the menu next week!! It is very different to Max. Nivel in Peru- not as personalised (actually i would say its IMpersonal) and its even more úniversity-like´than our course in Australia- in terms of independant learning outside of class- but i guess that´s what you get when you go to the University ...
