      From Naples to Sigonella, Sicily

A travel blog entry by joshualyon on Dec 05, 2014

I was trying to catch a flight to Shannon from Sigonella NAS, so I fight an overnight ferry from the port of Naples, to the port of Catania. From there I took a cab to the NAS. The flight to Shannon was canceled, so I am doing the waiting game thing again. I need some rest, so I am staying in an actual hotel room for the night. Hopefully there is a flight tomorrow to get ...

... decoration were superb. Anyway, we made our way through the fountained square to the Ancient Greek theatre built in the 3rd century BC. Still very intact enough for Elton John to perform there last year. After the best coffee we have had for nearly 3 weeks and a bit of wifi, time to head off for another hour to the slopes of Mt.Etna. We climbed to 6000 feet of Mt. Etna's 10,000ft. I actually mean we drove, not walked! We passed ...

Nicolosi to Taormina fine and Warmish

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 22, 2014

... chilli sauce, sweet peas and breadcrumbs cooked in oil with garlic, sardines baked with lemon and orange, and a very tart lemon jelly for desert, finished with free grappa- licorice infused and oregano infused. Those last flavours were a bit over the top, but the best meal in Sicily fro 52€. Street outside bnb was very noisy all night, even double glazing didn't keep it quiet, and neighbours shoes on wooden floors woke us again at ...

      Mt Etna

A travel blog entry by kenb on Nov 21, 2014

... top of a cable car system that isn't working, then climbed the remainder. Hard work in the thinner atmosphere but rewarding. Will feel it in the thighs tomorrow. Very desolate landscape- just black lava from the last major eruption in 2007 and snow. No vegetation or wildlife. We hired a car to drive around Sicily (Sicilia to us locals), and the driving can be pretty harrowing at times, with totally unpredictable local drivers, tiny 1 car width roads, and the absence of street ...

Licata to Nicolosi Warm sunny 21 deg

... atmosphere. Not too much brand name stuff, and not particularly cheap, but Kim managed to load up on handbags. Couldn't find anything interesting for the kids- adult or junior. Set off again around 1530 for easy drive to Nicolosi which is on edge of mt Etna. Road in was bedlam but town seemed nice enough. Typical small Sicilian town. Hotel not too hard to find with the help of Google. Older property with bright blue walls and red ...
