The Fish Market, at Dawn

A travel blog entry by swissandy

After failing to awaken the previous day to visit the markets, I vigilantly set my alarm and lodge in next my ear, for a crisp 5am start. That is supposedly when the local fish and produce markets get going around here, and we are keen to check it out. Our previous market experience in Palermo was less than satisfying – a dwindling amount of …

Dinner Becomes Etna

A travel blog entry by swissandy

Well Catania has been good so far – we arrived in safely and soundly via a most comfortable bus, and even got to the hostel only getting lost once! Of course, at this late stage in the trip, my clothes were all rather grubby. Affiliates of mine will be aware that I am drawn to laundry like a bee is drawn to anything that isn't honey, so I …

Caveman Cuisine

Smokey Mc-Sulpher Almost Claims 2 More Victims

A travel blog entry by swissandy

From the cryptic title, you may not have guessed what I am writing about today. We climbed Mt Etna, and my oh my was it a difficult one. But first, a little history. …

Return to Catania and Etna

A travel blog entry by sam.tank

On Friday I came back to Catania, mainly as a link to get to Naples, and partly because I wanted to be in the town for the weekend, and see it from a slightly different point of view than last time.

The place I am staying in is more like a b&b than a hostel, which has gone through some refurbishment meaning that there is no use of a kitchen, or laundry and no breakfast unless I pay a little extra. The room was comfy enough though and the staff are lovely.
