One time vacation, maybe

... already know all the best spots!

We plan to visit Edinburgh before going onto London. As my husband is of Scottish heritage. I need MUCH advice on getting around Edinburg, Scotland without driving ourselve. We only have a few days before we head down to London so we would like to maximize our time there without being frantic

East Fife v Alloa Athletic - 5/12/2009

312 miles - set off at some un-Godly hour to drive from Chesterfield to Fife, Scotland to watch football! Trish likes the journeys but thinks the idea is crazy. Anyway, we are here now! Prior to the match we walked around the town - NOT Scotland's biggest attraction. Anyway, 2:30pm and I arrive at the ground ready for the match. One stand is fairly ...

... itself was such a shock. It was like a combination of London and Vienna. Such gorgeous old buildings, I couldn't wait to explore..

..Meet up with some of my friend's mates in the station, aaaand then we end up in the St. James shopping mall thingy for an hour and a half. Now unlike most teenage girls - I. Hate. Shopping. Well at least just going around staring at clothes. Seriously, what is the point? My adventure ...

... our holidays” kind of essay that I and I am sure you were subjected to at school. I'm hoping that it will turn out as a Mike O'Connor (W/end Courier Mail) v Rick Steeves kind of hybrid. I think I'm kidding myself and I get the feeling that it will just be what itwill be and take on a life of its own. You were warned.

Things to avoid that I have discoveredthus far. The Edinburgh Airport Car Rental office on the firstweekend of the UK summer school holidays. That particular ...

Edinburgh - Day 6: No Show Nessie and the Hwy thru

... tell you what – I wouldn’t have cared where we stopped at that point. I needed to cool off. The bus must have been about 97 degrees inside. It felt wonderful to get outta there for a while. We browsed the gift shop, but I had some trouble finding what I was looking for. I didn’t exactly know what that was, but I knew that I’d know it when I saw it! I really wanted to buy one of those big boxes of shortbread cookies, but doubted I’d be able to get them ...

From Edinburgh I suppose .......

... that it was a 15 minute walk to the fort itself and the wall came in on the North East corner of the fort - became the north battlement and extended further west. In addition I would be able to walk on the walk for a bit. This sounded perfect.I was truly excited about all this.We arrived at the fort but we decided that I would go in alone as it was a "bit blustery" and I started on my walk. The path to the fort took me through grazing land and though the path was ...

... very tourist-friendly, with explanatory and directive signs scattered across town, though it gets confusing because their streets are 'gates', their gates are 'bars', and their bars are 'pubs'! All in all, I'm glad I got to see it, but as I didn't really meet anyone, I was ready to leave. Actually, I did meet people - three widows/widowers, strangely enough. The first during my Ghost Trail, a woman in her 60s or 70s who had lost her husband at 52 ...

... scotland. saw many awesome paintings. whatās great is that all the museums are free except for one. went to the edinburgh castle-- an absolute rip off.... it's pretty on the outside, but when you go in, it's just a castle.. a fort... very similar to many others... my personal opinion... the most interesting part was probably the pet cemetry, and some mysterious rock...

... time in his country, its just now with a little bit of hindsight, I think that sailors might be better off avoiding each other when on holidays. I reckon all sailors might be a little headstrong and too demanding of each other when off the ship and on the high and dry(does anyone out there care to support/oppose my theory?) One night Conrad and I ventured off to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, with tickets i skillfully purchased on ebay (I managed to get them for only ...

Final Final Edinburgh Leaving drinks

... and being so done in that I had to miss my flight and buy a new ticket the next day. (It was SO worth the money though) 12) Realising the next morning, that I was not alone in my suffering - Becky : you are my Pinot Grigio icon (and Mark as your taxi avoiding angel!), Clare: thank you for feeling as bad as me (even if you were doing it from bed in between power naps whilst I was running round packing and wishing I could have just 30 mins of sleep!) -Cx
