The Fairy Penguins now called Little Penguins for 'Political Correctness' are only 12 inches high
and spend the nights in burrows which can be over a mile from the sea. They come in from the sea at dusk in small groups but some stay out for up to three days. Our timing is in the period of their moult so many are out of the water for up to 3 weeks as they have a total moult and are unable to swim until the new feathers fully grown..
