Christmas?

So, its the 19th of December and I have to say I dont feel even the smallest bit festive. The sun is shining at some ridiculous force and only woolworths seems to sell a decent assortment of wrapping paper. Not quite what I was after but it will have to do I suppose. We got ourselves moved out, into a dorm in a hostel at a place called Bondi beach, about a 15 minute bus ride out of town. The beach is cool, although there were big warnings of race riots this weekend so the beach wasnt that bus...

A bondi passover

Flight from Auckland to Sydney and then another but to Bondi Beach. When I arrived , my two friends , Or and Ofer, were waiting for me at the Bondi Beach YHA where I stayed. It was passover and we decided to celebrate in Beit Habad. Beit Habad a worldwide organization that provides religious ... Um... Well , you go there for holidays wherever you are in the world and get a free meal :-) We went there and after waiting a short while , entered the dinning room. Basically , there is a young Rabi...

Second letter from Australia

Hejsa Alle sammen.

From Sydney to Cairns - part 1

In Sydney, we stayed with Richard, a hospitality club member who resides in Panania about 30 minutes by train from Sydney. The weather was rainy at times but it didn't hinder us to explore the sights such as Glebe,a bohemian district with lots of bookstores, cafes and vintage clothing stores. We went to see the Art gallery of New South Wales, the Opera House, the Rocks, the Botanical Garden. We visited Sydney's satellite commercial centre just across the Harbour Bridge which is the gateway to...

Beaches ahoy!!!

Ah man, this is what Oz is all about - sun, sand, surf...... Spent just under a week sunning myself at beaches about 40km out of Sydney, lovely!! We headed up to a little place called Collaroy, and stayed in the Beach House Hostel - really nice place, even had it's own swimming pool. But who needs a pool when it's a 5 minute stroll to the beach?! There are about 7 beaches within a 15 minute drive from where we were staying; one of the beaches being Palm Beach where they shoot Home and Away! D...

Bondi is da bomb

Well it's better than central Sydney. More like what you would expect Sydney to be like and the weather's better. At the moment we're looking for work in the area and possibly a place to stay, unfortunately the other 500 backpackers here are as well... If we can't get work then we might have to move on down the coast. Weather's improved and this hostel does free surf board hire.

Surfs Up

Had an energetic day today. Started it off with a hangover promptly followed by a spot of surfing. Last night we went to a club called Beach Road Hotel and watched a band called Jackson Jackson, or the Jackson Jacksons or something. Anyway they were really good and I drank quite a lot which neatly leads me back to the hangover I was suffering from this morning.

I got up at 8:30 to meet with Kim and Ivana? I think :S Met them in the hostel the day previous and they said they were going...

Beach, BBQ and Boozin'

I like to call it the 3 Bs, each one a staple in Australia. The surfing today was slightly more successful in that I managed to catch more waves AND I stood up on one. I'll be professional in no time. We spent the afternoon at the beach today, after which we headed back for grub. BBQ was on the agenda and quite a success it was. The aussies think they know best when it comes to barbeques but we can definitely give them a run for their money. Especially seeing as Byron is from South Africa. Work work work

Well looking for it anyway. As previously mentioned work is relatively hard to come by in these parts because everyone's looking for it at this time of year. Unless you have a specific skill or trade or you're a girl who... how do i put this... possesses certain assets, then job hunting is pretty much hit and miss. That's what I’ve found so far anyway. Today however Byron and I spoke to the manager at a restaurant called sunset grill, she said she would call back about a trial shift whi...
