what to do when it's raining in paradise...

When I was little I loved bunkbeds! Whenever we stayed at a place that had them I would fight with Luke to get the top, usually winning since I was oldest and Luke had a tendancy to roll out of bed in the middle of the night. It was so much fun back then, sleeping so high, and feeling so cool. Now, when I enter a room full of the once so loved bunkbeds, I sigh and look for a bottom bed, preferably one that doesn't squeak when you move. After being in Australia for almost four months and trave...

From Sydney to Cairns - 1st day

1st day: flight from Sydney to Cairns with Quantas, 16.11.08 - 9.15am Arrived well in Cairns around 11.15am, took free shuttle service to my backpacker resort called Bohemia. Met a english girl called Vanessa, is travelling now already for 3 month. Today I will just relax on the pool, nothing else. For tomorrow I have booked a full day on the great barrier reef with sailing boot and snorkeling. I'm looking forward to it, am excited. At night I had 2 beers at the pool. Vanessa, Joshua from Col...

Great Barrier Reef

2nd day! Got up really early, 5.45am, had breakfast at 6.30am and have been picked up at 7am. With me, Vanessa from Berlin and Lidia from Barcelona. Day has started cloudy but still really warm. At 8am we got on the boat, a Catamaran. A lovely day snorkeling on two different places, one destination was Michaelmas Cay, white sand, turquoise water and a world renwned bird sanctuary. The way back we sailed, was a great day. We met on the boat a girl from Holland, her name is Jiska, so we were 4 ...

Sad and amazing end to my travels

Well as most of you all know, I am now home in Ireland, sitting in my old study room as I write this!! The end of my travelling venture ended in a way that I did briefly think about but never thought would happen. My Nan passed away the Sun before I arrived home on Tuesday, it is only now today that I have the energy to finish off my travelling antics, never in a million years did I anticipate that I would also be including a death :-( Anyways Im going to fill you all in on the last days of m...

Cairns & ProDive Reef Adventures

Landing in Cairns was a somewhat different experience to Hong Kong. There's only one runway and our Airbus was by far the largest thing on the tarmac! Another stamp in the passport later (and several encounters with the airport sniffer puppy looking for smuggled food) we were on a bus to Bohemia Resort, our first hostel of the trip. The town is covered in palm trees and the hostel looked more like a tropical hotel than the budget rooms I'd been used to in America! Very happy Sarah! We started...

Australia Day

Arrived in Cairns early yesterday morning, and it turned into the morning from hell. I got handed over to immigration because apparantly, voluntary work is included in the kind of work I'm not allowed to do on a tourist visa. I clearly did not know that! I had to the woman as much information as possible about RealGap so she could see if they were an exception, but when I asked what would happen if it wasn't, she said I wouldn't be able to do the program- the thing I've travelled god-knows-ho...

Cairns- First full day

I am staying in the Bohemia Resort in Cairns, which is actually more of a motel than a hostel. There are 4 proper beds to a room, which is so much nicer than bunks. There is also a nice pool with a mini-waterfall and lots of picnic benches to sit outside, and it's also one of the cheapest places I've stayed. The only hitch is that it's about 15-20 mins walk from town, which is probably a good thing that I'm safely away from the shops!! I'm planning to stay here for a week so I'm really happy ...

Cairns - The tropical north!

G'DAY So here we are in the tropical north! Amazing to actually get here. Flight was terrible on the way over but it was worth the trip. Our Hostel is amazing - we have a private ensuite queen room for £20 each a night! Beer is cheap, staff are great and the have a BBQ are for guests to use. After a day of laundry we have a couple of days before we start our diving course which should see us both qualified in a week........updates in this entry to follow! *****UPDATE***** Say hello to a quali...
