Island-Bound
Wednesday was another big travel day. Gabe and I checked out of the Outside Inn (after packing some jaffles for the road of course) and hopped in a cab heading back to the Guilin Airport. On our way there, our cab driver got pulled over by the police and couldn't find his ID card or papers or anything. He was very nonchalant about it despite the …
From Blown Speakers
We left Beihai two nights ago by boat to Hainan island. We got "D" class tickets, which I thought were fine but Hannah hated. Classes above have their own cabins, whereas we were in a room of 64 beds. It's much smoother than a train ride, and you have a lot more room to roam about. We sat out on the deck for quite a while playing Canasta with …
Watermelon beaches AND fields
Still sore from the previous days' exertions, we rose and set off once more. By this point, my disgust with my bike had reached, if you will, epic proportions. But, when we left the paved road for a sandy path that lead to the completely deserted beach, some of my bitterness dissipated. Aside from a line of garbage washed ashore by the surf and …
Only took 2 days but we finally made it to Sanya!
5am in hot Haikou and we were joined by many men and families queing at the doors of the train station ticket office which opened at 6am. We ensured we were at the front of the que with me stood outside one door and Sonja stood outside the other! We will be on that first train to Sanya!!

A week of sun, sand, swimming, scuba and alcohol
We went off to the JianFeng Fu rain forest on the Tuesday and were highly disappointed when we found out it was inside a resort where we would be going (we were later happy when we found out there was less bugs where we were going) We found a beautiful waterfall and the scenery was amazing, we even went for a swim in a gorgeous turquoise lake. …

Great place to stay if you want to be close to the beach. Ross and Rachel (the hostel owners) are excellent at meeting demands. Ross has great English and get things done fast. He's always thinking about his customers and hosts great parties for everyone. Definitely a great hostel.

Best English speaking personnel we've encountered in China. They cater to the international, mostly young, but are very helpful and offer discounted activities, bikes, laundry.... Free wi-fi (in rooms) and computers off the lobby. Loaner beach towels and mats. A one page menu of inexpensive, quick and easy and meals, i.e. toast, eggs & coffee for 20 yuan. Very close to the beach and lots of food and shopping.
