En route we visited Wai-O-Tapu thermal park, mainly to see Lady Knox Geyser. A man had to put some washing detergent down it to get it going and when it blew it wasn't that high. We then walked quickly around the park (holding our breath as much as possible). The colours produced by the chemicals in the water were greens, reds and yellows. …
Who told me this was a good idea?????
Ok, so firstly it was the early start. When you know you need to get up, a)you cant get to sleep and b) you keep waking up to check the time! So got the bus to the starting point and started the walk about quart to 8 from memory. I had extra clothes (a godsend) and enough food to spend a night at least, so pretty well prepared and rather heavy, but …
Sailing on lake Taupo..
The morning began with a trip to the sky diving place, but ended with me not jumping. Sinus has its quirks sometimes, although if I had not had a minor headache, I think I would have gone up. Oh well, most of you will be saying 'excuses, excuses", and you might be right but hey, I went as far as the office and signing the forms.....

Another geothermal site visited
I was not going to have a heavy day today as my hips were sore and my legs a little tender, so i got a lift to craters of the moon, which looks interesting from the brochure. It was quite a little area of activity until they started to farm the hot pools and then it suddenly got very big with many craters opening up but also geysers shutting down. …
15000ft and falling fast - And crossing Mordor
We stayed in the Blackcurrant Backpackers hostel which was a converted motel so the rooms were probably the best we have stayed in and had a good kitchen for cooking plus supermarkets nearby. We decided to take it easy the first day so we booked a skydive with Taupo Tandem Skydiving from 15000ft!!! It's the place where most skydives are done in NZ …

Blackcurrant Backpackers is an amazing place to stay. I was given the most amazing welcome out of all the hostels I stayed in during my two months moving around NZ. Everyone is very friendly and they geniunely want to make your stay more pleasurable for you. I had a booked for a dorm bed in a 6 bed dorm I think but was given a double bed within a dorm which I think was a 5 bed dorm. The facilties were all quite new, clean and well looked after.
The hostel had a really friendly feel to it and the staff would introduce you to other guests quite often.......also due to the friendly welcome everyone is given I found that made the backpackers more open to chatting to others.....I met loads of people here and stayed for over a week, split by about a month.
This hostel got 'top pick' for in the 2010 Lonely Planet and I can truly see why, it was fab.
