The world adventure begins - reeling in Bangkok!

Our world journey begins! It's only been two days here and already the whirlwind of people, experiences, tastes, culture, language, smells, and noise leaves me tongue-tied. How to even begin to describe this mysterious, fast-paced, friendly place? We step off the plane at beautiful, new, super-techy Suvarnabhumi International Airport and the warm sticky air engulfs us as we walk the causeway into the terminal. Surprisingly, the touts at the airport doors are fairly relaxed and we have no prob...

Ko Samui

Hello, Yesterday was my 21st birthday, and it was pretty strange having it away from home, but really good at the same time. We woke up really late and had to check out as we were going to leave for Ko Samui which is one of the islands off of the east coast of Thailand. We had a late breakfast and then went to Mister Donut so that we could get me a birthday cake... see the photos..... We got on the overnight train at about 3.30 and we went in a first class cabin for my birthday treat which wa...

We arrived without any hassle. The intenet at our hostel is terrible. So far we have had the most amazing time! The food is fantastic, shopping is great, and the people are friendly! Our flight was worry free. The interenet sucks here, so I'm sorry this is short, but everything is wonderful!! I love you all! xoxol

Prison Cell

Yesterday we spent the day travelling round Bangkok. We had to get a sky train then river taxi to get into the main part of town. When we got there we got bullied into going on a tuk tuk round the city. We visited loads of Temples & stuff but then they kept on taking us to tailors to try & get us to buy some silk jackets & we got fed up of them so we just got them to take us to the main backpacker part of town. We decided which hostel we wanted to stay in tomorrow night then heade...

Off to Thailand

By the time we wake up it's time to get ready and head to the airport. We pack our bags and march off to the opposite side of the street from where we got off the airport bus two days previously, believing this would be the logical point to catch the return bus. There are signs for a million other buses but not the A11, so we creep down the road a little further. No luck. Jane asks a well-dressed businessman and he confidently points a little further down. Still no luck, so we ask a police of...

Bangkok - Day 36 to 47

From Phuket, Joe and I moved onto the Thai capital Bangkok. Indeed I was to spend the next 11 days in Bangkok before I would move on again, the first three of those were with Joe who saldy had to return back to the UK at that point! I know we certainly both had pretty mixed feelings about Bangkok. Personally I found the city an absolutely amazing place full of character and energy, yet I also found it one of the most frustrating and annoying places that I have been to (and that includes my ho...

Bangkok

So, we survived the 11 hour flight, although it was pretty uncomfortable. Managed to watch two films. The food was pretty good, both Lou and i decided on the chicken in some kind of bean sauce with stir fried rice. good practice. The heat hit us as soon as we walked off the plane - beautiful!!!!! wished we were wearing shorts. We piled onto a bus from the airport hoping to find our way to Big John's. Typically, however, we got off at the wrong stop and ended up walking a fair few miles to fin...

Bangkok

The trip to Bangkok was surprisingly smooth, the only problems being the departure and the arrival. When we booked the tickets, we tried to explain where the appartments were (not many people seemed to know), but the driver was sure and even waved off attempts to confirm that we were on the same page. Almost predictably, the transfer didn't turn up and a phone call, at great expense, resulted in a girl shouting "I don't understand" and then hanging up. We ended up walking and, thankfully, fou...

Four nights in Bangkok and the World's your Oyster

August 1 2008, (day 1): Caught a shuttle to the International airport and found out that my first flight was delayed by two hours. Great start. The flight was Thai Airways from Perth to Bangkok via Phuket. The plane landed in Phuket and we had to go through customs there. The humidity hit me as soon as I got off the plane. It was about 30 degrees celsius. I had enough time to have a couple of cigs then board the same plane for another one hour journey. The service was very good from the staf...
