Friendly staff, clean, COLD! Great location. A bitt run down. Would have given it a better rating but our toilet was broken and sounded like a waterfall despite their attempts to fix it (they did try!)

Did find a nicer place a few blocks away for cheaper

Very clean, lovely room, only downside is that desk staff arent that helpful with activities in the area even though they have a big board with prices

Loved the Big Blue! Met so many new friends here. Showers could be better, but the pool, the bar, the travel desk, the proximity to the waterfront and the friendliness of the staff made it ultra awesome. I want to go back - tomorrow!

      Weekend in Cape Town

Our weekend in Cape Town started out with a rainy journey to the taxi stop to Fish Hoek and then a train ride to the city. We checked into our hostel (Big Blue Backpackers, 7 Vesperdene road). This was my first time being in a hostel and I was impressed by how nice it was (compared to what common stereotypes of hostels are). Our team of 7 got our …

It is 11pm Friday, our last night in Cape Town. This is a pretty amazing city, but I think it's what's outside the city that is most interesting.

When our tour finally picked us up yesterday morning (nearly 2 hours late, but then that's "Africa time"), we headed off to see the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. On the way down to …

I am writing you from one of the southernmost cities on the face of the earth- Cape Town, South Africa.

We left Seattle at 6pm Monday night, flew 1 hour to Vancouver, 9 hours to London, and then 11 hours to Cape Town, arriving at 6:30am Wednesday morning(yesterday). While that flight schedule may sound horrid, it really wasn't so bad …

The last day...wine lands and sadness

... and each entrance had its name, Wine Tasting or Wine Cellar, painted in black. Inside was a big open room with the bar on one side and the gift shop where you could purchase wine perpendicular to it. We sat down at the bar, the seven of us, and Wayne introduced us to Ted, our wine connoisseur. He explained how the tasting would go, that we could choose any six wines we wanted to try, and to eat crackers in between to cleanse the palate. I discovered that I'm ...
