    Today we made our way to Taupo. On our way through Rotorua we visited the geothermal park where we saw the geysers and hot mud pools. It was really impressive and kind of felt like we were in the dinosaur age. We were shown the carving school where only men are allowed to study/practise and the weaving school. They run these school to keep Maori traditions alive ...

    The weather was absolutely boiling by now so as we drove to the natural thermal hot pools we realised we may not want to spend too much time on them. There were quite a few people already down by the main pool but we walked a little way up stream to find the really hot pools. One dip of the foot told it really was far too hot a day to be jumping into boiling water!

    So we arrived in Taupo and really liked the look of it, beautiful blue lake, people out swimming, people fishing off their boats. We went to the Isite and found a free camp ground a couple of Kms outside of town.
