The Tea Party

Arriving first thing in the morning in Boston and heading downtown to explore, everything about the city seemed 'pleasant' (that's a word I used a dozen times in the three days we were there). There was not masses to do in terms of must-do tourist sites, but we really did have a great time here. Boston was busy enough that it was not boring, yet …

You never really know what is going to be in store for you when you travel, or book a place to stay, do you? I mean, you can look at the pictures (they naturally only show the best side) and read the on-line reviews. If you see a common pattern of problems and complaints, you make a decision based on that. That's what I thought I'd done when I …

Old Boston Town

So I caught the Greyhound bus from Montreal to Boston, an eight hour trek, but completely worth it. You cross three states, Vermont, New England and Massachusetts getting to take in amazing vistas and small American towns along the way. Crossing the border in a bus was interesting, those that have experienced this know how intimidating it can be. …

Before toys and prams, they threw tea from ships. Some 200 or so years ago, an insolent rebel uprising drove the noble rulers away from their land; and so began the United States of America. It all started in Boston, where today they have thankfully relaxed their opinions of the British and let us visit. The city is littered with revolutionary …

... selling baseball's greatest player,Babe Ruth,to the New York Yankees for $100k to fund his investment in the musical 'No No Nanette'.Most of the best of the rest of the Red Sox team followed in short order and the Yankees became the dominant team in baseball, winning 27 World Series' during the lengthy Red Sox interregnum.Great story, which as Spurs fan I could relate to...Tea for two anyone?...

It's in the leafy Back Bay/South End area with its beautiful brow brick terraces. Short walk to the city a little ways to the nearest subway though.

Too hot to stay in summer!

The staff were excellent and helpful, but the rooms were hot as hell, I had a terrible time with bed bugs in the first room I was put in. I couldn't sleep all that well even when moved, as rooms were stuffy, airless and so uncomfortably hot. Showers were not cleaned regularly or to standard I believe is healthy. Facilities down in lobby were excellent, good breakfast, free wi Fi etc, but I would have foregone all this for decent beds, showers and cooling facilities where they are really needed. It was so bad many people were sleeping downstairs to cope. Would not stay again.

So expect mattresses like concrete and bed linen that should not be near naked flames. Free coffee, free wifi & crowded showers. But great location and nice space.
