Bellavista Hostel Santiago

Ooooh jet lag, man i was feeling it the day i arrived in Santiao but after crashing out in the very funky Bella Vista hostel i still managed to go out that night & stay up til 3 drinking Pisco Sours, the much disputed national drink. Wow it´s cold here. We're staying in the Bellavista district of the city, a bohemian enclave with great bars and restaurants. Enjoyed live music in a bar last night, drinking pisco sours into the early hours. Carol is developing a strong affinity with this drink!

Spent the afternoon visiting Pablo Neruda´s house in Santiago, a fascinating collection of art and bric-a-brac from around the world. Tonight will hopefully be spent enjoying more Chilean wine - we recommend the Carmenera grap...

Hola todos, We´re now in Santiago, and having a great time...its such a cool city! We arrived on Wednesday, and went to a hostel called La Casa Roja, which is a huge renovated colonial mansion, where they had baked beans on toast for breakfast!!! Yum! There are 215,000 dogs on the streets of Santiago. Enough dogs to fill three football stadiums. They produce about 40 tons of .... every day. Bellavista hostel is in a nice area of the city and has a pool table, massive telly and lots of other fun things. Almost too comfortable, you could easily spend the day there. Went up to San Cristable hill/mountain for the view of the skyline on Sunday. Smog can be bad in Santiago so its a good day to go with alot of things closed and not as much traffi...

Two days in santiago and the smell of cigarettes are all through our clothes, and smog in our lungs : goes great with jetlag!! ha! Theres no such thing as smoke-free pubs round here (nor veges it seems in seems!) and teenages in school uniforms are free to smoke outside school (though this was a catholic school...others seemed not to be so wayward...!).
