Really enjoyed Bella's. Had a sweet cabana outside on the lawn, glad to be outside as the main hostel would have been noisy. Great for meeting people and good location, close to The Split and beach area!

Bella's is a classic backpackers. Cheap, standard amenities and wifi, free canoes and bicycles, Jeff (mgr) is nice guy and great place to meet folks. Good alternative to overrun Tina's.

Day 116 April 29th continued - The boat only takes 75 minutes to land on a pier off the east side of Caye Caulker. The boat resembled a large yacht than the style of boats we are used to on the Isle of Wight. I jump off, grab my bag and head towards a cabin that is cheap and has single rooms. Nuts, they are full. I try two more before I head north …

Crossing the border from Mexico to Belize should be straight forward. It wasn't. Overland, maybe, but we wanted to go from Chetumal in Mexico, by boat, to Caye Caulker off the coast of Belize. On arriving at the bus terminal in Chetumal, we found a poster for a company that did just that, and we could buy tickets for it at the booth in the terminal …

Day 1 - Transit thru Belize City
Got a chicken bus from San Ignacio to Belize. Lot nicer than the Guatemalan ones but unlike Guatemal only two people per seat. Ended up standing for the first 30minutes and was happy I didnt have to stand for the last 2.5 hrs. Belize city definately looks dodgey. Its not even noon …

After a smooth border crossing and what was probably the fastest trip ever through Belize City (about 20 minutes), we embarqued on the Caye Caulker Water Taxi for one of the offshore islands (called Cayes - pronounced Keys) of Belize. On the ride there we saw lots of ocean, some mangrove patches and a few ¨private island¨ houses, which were no more …
