Airlie Beach, Whitehaven Beach and the Boomerang

Jess, Cait, Betsy and I took a trip to the Whitsunday's for the weekend. We left on Wed. night and stayed in the Gold Coast and then flew out on Thursday morning. We got to Airlie Beach and checked into our hostel. We spent the day checking out the shops and hitting up the community lagoon. On Friday we departed on the Boomerang, a sailboat we would be on for 2 nights and 3 days. The boat had 25 people on board, and was geared towards a younger crowd. We sailed all of Friday and Sat. we went ...

What a birthday!

in a nutshell: Jono spent 10 hours of his birthday sitting on a Greyhound bus going from Cairns to Airlie Beach! That's it really. Oh yes, and Paula and Marshy had a little girl (Jocelyn Annie) born at the end of Jono's birthday in Oz and the beginning of his birthday in the UK! So he's not going to forget HER birthday! ------------------------- We arrived in Airlie Beach and raced to the Beaches backpackers hostel. Airlie is FULL of (mostly British) backpackers so you have to zip off once th...

Magnetic Island to Airlie Beach

We had to make our way back to Townsville and then onto the Greyhound Bus for the 4.5hr trip down to Airlie beach, the bus was a bit late but was able to make up the time ok before we reached our destination.
We arrived at Airlie Beach and were able to get a free minibus from the car park to the hostel, when we arrived at the hostel they told us that they had overbooked, tsk! but because we were a couple they would upgrade us free of charge to a double room for two nights! WOOHOO!!!! The p...

Our Whitsundays tour

We were loudly and rudely awoken at 4.30am along with the rest of our hostel when someone had set the fire alarms off, luckily it was resolved quickly and we didn't get as far as out of the building before going back to our room to try and sleep a bit more.
We then woke up and went to get our minibus to the ReefJet boat, the sea was very rough unfortunately and didn't bode too well with Charlotte, after a while of very bumpy sailing we got to a bay where we were got a mini boat to the beac...

Airlie beach then night bus

Today we had spare time until our night bus at 8pm, we decided to explore more of Airlie Beach and have a generally relaxed day, we went to sit down in the park which also has a lagoon waterarea like Cairns, the one at Airlie seemed bigger though. We spent the afternoon reading our books and chilling.
We then had to go and collect our bags and get the night bus.
The bus wasn't too bad and I actually managed to get some sleep, Charlotte saw some bush fires around Rockhampton, they were ...

I am sailing.........lalala

I have left the lush green rainforest and my lovely tablelands and headed further South to Airlie Beach to set off on a sailing tour through the Whitsunday Islands. What more can I say than: This was as close to perfect as it gets. The ship (Kiana) was small but just right, the 13 others were a good mix of all kinds of people and a great group, the crew was super nice, delicious food, the scenery incredibly beautiful, the waters so turquoise that it hurt the eyes and the dives and snorkeling ...

Scooteroos, rodeo, 4X4 and the great barrier reef

Where to start? We have done so much over the past 2 weeks. We dropped into Surfers paradise on the gold coast for a night and found it to be very built up with lots of high rises hotels and swarve bars, a bit like Miami Beach. The beach was pretty cool but the surfing was not the best. We then made a small trip further north to Brisbane and enjoyed the city for a couple of days. There are loads of great bars and a big city beach lagoon to relax by in the city centre. We also had the joys of ...

East Coast!

I stayed in Bundaberg for around 5 weeks before heading on up the east coast. Work was really hard going & jobs were weather dependent which meant we were laid off a lot of the time. I did most of my work picking lemons & tomatoes, then towards the end of my time there, I moved into a packing shed for tomatoes. I will never complain about office jobs ever again!! Unfortunately, I started to have problems with my feet which were aggravated even more from actually having to stand on them all da...

Airlie Beach

Sorry I haven't written for so long but I have been really busy. I was originally booked up to stay in Airlie Beach for 1 night but that turned into 4 which has taken loads of time out on my alrady busy trip but oh well. I went sea kayaking with some huge turtles over to one of the smallest whitsunday islands where we also got to swim and spent the rest of the days by the lagoon, sunbathing! Monday was spent on a sailing boat around the whitsundays which was really good fun even though it was...
