Taganga
After once again waking up in the sweat box, we gathered our stuff and headed off to nearby Taganga, an authentic fishing town, known as a great place for scuba diving and beautiful beaches nearby.
We had heard a lot of good stories about Taganga but our first impressions once again were not great. The taxi driver was bringing us up some dirt road to the hostel, we thought we were in the back of beyonds altogether. After finding another hostel, the Bay View Hostel & ...
... up some bug repellent for the Park and music as usual was playing...blaring... I saw about 4 girls walking together with ages from 2 to 6. The two year old started to shake her shoulders and hips to the music as she was walking with a sorta ¨Shakira -style attitude as she followed the older girls shaking their stuff.....it starts young here, just like how my childhood was and no one is shy to shout out the tunes to a love song here and there.
The Park
We ...
Parque De Nacionale Tayrona, Magdalena, Colombia destin8ion... hammocks under the roof of a pavilion, precariously perched on a rocky outcrop between 2 picturesque bays. The scenery is stunning - it would be even better without the rows of people lining the beach roasting themselves. We spend the afternoon snorkelling and trying to avoid other loud Australians.
A storm blows in during the night, whipping empty hammocks into a frenzy and smashing peoples food off the bench onto the floor. Once it quietens down, I get woken by the ...
Parque Tayrona, Magdalena, Colombia malvadaI rose to a bright sunny day. I got up before the others, in fact before anyone in the hostel but not before the locals. It was 6-30 am, I sat on the balcony looking towards the bay, typing up the daily. Around me the locals were already in full flow starting their days, children already dressed and off to school. A cleaner arrived at the hostel remove all the evidence of late night drinking sessions, the breakfast cook arrived shortly after getting ready to make ...
Taganga, Colombia casebrownfamily... scrambled, fried, poached, omelete. There were also pancakes which Jody went for but Niamh surprisingly chose scrambled eggs, mixed with vegetables, with garlic toast and hot chocolate.

As we were waiting for our breakfast a lively young snowy white cat appear at our table and started chewing and wrestling with my shoe laces. In Colombia there are cats and dogs roaming free everywhere and Cartagena was no exception. They seemed to be a part of the landscape, not really ...
Taganga, Colombia casebrownfamily... huge sacedas (2X as noisy as those in Tucson) and grasshoppers. The water was clear and blue just like all the other beaches we´ve been to so far, but this time the were giant boulders jetting out from the water and thick lush greenery as far as you could see. The camp site was almost a bay and there weren´t any big waves, making it the perfect place for playing in the water and swimming laps (Sarah did laps while I played).
<br ...
Taganga, Colombia ochavez79... little green highway system for a while as we rested by a stream, but throughout the jungle, there were actually tons and tons of them, crisscrossing the path the whole way.

When we eventually arrived at the next campsite, we were so hot and tired we just ran STRAIGHT into the ocean, much to the amusement of the only other guests--3 french guys. THe place just barely had electricity enugh to last until 930, but we were so tired ...
Taganga, Magdalena, Colombia calkeebler... nightly rains didn't allow for much sleep in the hammock that I rented either. The sun will come though. I've changed plans (yet again) and will be taking a cruise to Panama via Islas San Blas with the Tupiza crew that I ran into again here. After many issues and problems (hopefully all resolved now), we are scheduled to depart Tuesday.

More from Panama...happy 34th to me!
Parque Tayrona, Magdalena, Colombia sabarod... feeling that you were somewhere far from the rest of the world. The fact that a 45 minute hike from the main entrance or a very rough boat ride for 2 hours were the only 2 ways of getting there made sure that only a few tourists went to this beach.

A long chain of beaches were easily walkable to the left or right down the Carribean coast.

I spent 3 days there sleeping in a hammock at night under the stars. The pictures say it all.
