Base Wellington

We left at 10 today after a much needed lie in following the dire rugby performance. After a brief stop at Ohakune, we drove on to Wellington. Wellington is New Zealand's capital city yet rather surprisingly, unlike most other European cities at least, is not the largest city in terms of population. Wellington is also situated right at the bottom of the North Island and on Cook Strait, meaning it can get a tad windy, and cold. In the middle of the Winter too, all we need! We stayed in good ol' Wellington boots for a week, and it was ACE.

* Cuba St: numerous coffees bought from Midnight Expresso, a really cool little cafe, sushi devowered in seconds, many items bought from Recycle Boutique. People watching (we did, not us getting random stares). Fun times had.

* Te Papa museum was good - not excellent, but got numerous pictures of my ugly mug on a very large screen. Probably should have showered that day.

23.23 - The day had finally come for me to move hostel. I was not looking forward to it as it is a pain in the **** to move once you are settled down. Oh well, I shouldn't really complain. The capital of NZ - we arrived late, after travelling all afternoon from River Valley. Wellington - the capital city of New Zealand - is situated in a harbour and surrounded by lush green hills populated with apartments and posh houses. With around 460 thousand people living here, it contains under half the population of Auckland, but seemingly many more bars, places to eat and a better layout. I had a good time here. A Quick stop for petrol and we were on our way to windy Wellington. About a 5 hour drive one of the longest we've done yet. We tried a hostel but were turned away so it was on to Base Hostel where we got a 4 share room. Drove from Taupo to wellington, arriving in the evening. Like the feel of wellington. The xBase backpackers is right down on the warf which is a nice place to wander around. My room has a great view of the water. I should have spent at least a full day here, but my ferry is booked for tomorrow morning, so only an evening and morning in town. Tooo bad!
