Terrible hostel. Don't stay here if you can avoid it. The beds are extremely thin uncomfortable, and the staff is inept at keeping their guest under control. The bar downstairs is also horrible, the drinks have pretty much little to no alcohol and are very expensive.

          Poorly ventilated prison

Absolutely awful. You can open the windows, and the rooms are obviously very stuffy as a result. Serious ventilation problems. I move to another room after the first night, as I could barely breathe. The next one felt better but had dehumidifier in the corner. The kitchen is also far too small and poorly equipped for the size of the hostel, as often seems to be the case with Base. I realised why the deep frying pan I was using didn't seem to be heating up well. The bottom was so smashed up that not enough surface sat on the heat. I showed a member of staff who walked in the kitchen, and said I may as well throw it away. He said he agreed but can't throw it away. Work that one out!

OK - if you need to stay in the city centre. It was boked for us by nakedbus. Friendly and efficient staff. Nice bar in the basement. Good kithcen facilities, though there were lots using it at the same time and many didn`t quite relly know how to clear up after themselves - e.g. whiping cookers and work surfaces.

Was the worst Hostel so far on my trip. It's very noisy and dirty there. Especially the kitchen is the dirtiest I've seen here in NZ. If you are in Wellington go to the Trek Global. Way better...

Some days are harder when travelling - I'd say this is one of those days. Loud, obnoxious roommates, sleep deprivation & exhaustion are a hard combination, and saying goodbye to Steph after weeks of travelling together was bound to be difficult. She was the last friend I had to say goodbye to, and it all became very real. To add to this I'm …

Leaving Kaikoura was sad and exciting because it meant that I was leaving the travel life for a bit, but I was going to start work soon. Our next overnight stop was Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. Unlike last time we had two nights instead of one. This gave us the opportunity to check out the night life of Welly, which was great. The night …

I have fallen instantly in love with Wellington and wish I could stay longer. The layout of the city is great; the town is on the water with lots of lovely houses on beautiful hills. It reminds me of parts of San Francisco in some ways. It has been very easy to walk around, has all the necessary amenities, and seems to have a good number of people …

So on Friday we didn't actually leave River Valley until 1 in the afternoon, so we had all morning there. But seeing as we had to check out at 10, we had 3 hours. So in the morning, I decided to go on the walk up the mountain with a few other people. Jonny and the others played some bowls and chilled out in the meantime. The walk was actually …

We didn't arrive in Welington until about 6pm. I went to the night market with Hannah, Beth and Christine. It was mainly food stalls, and there were a couple of guys playing guitar and singing in places. There was so much variety of food. I couldn't resist some Filipino barbecued pork, and then some deep fired squid from a Chinese stall. We ducked …
