Good nightlife, loads of tourists, nice people. Rooms had en-suites which was good and they put on bbqs at night for super cheap which comes with a beer so can't complain.

Cheap through a good deal with "stray"-bus. Clean and nice. Never spent much time in there though. Always out exploring the region. So don't know about kitchen facilities or lounge area. Pool and spa at hostel. Internet available at cost. Very helpful staff.
I'd go back if I'm ever in Paihia again.

Base is known for being the place where a younger crowd gets rowdy, so I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find it was a pretty laid back kind of place.

The facilities are good and clean, with little mini kitchen areas in the rooms and en suite bathrooms in all the dorms which is always a good thing. The pool and hot tub also looked clean but I didnt use them.

Staff were friendly and the on site bar was very good value, as was the $12 bbq they put on each night.

I would stay here again, but if you are looking for a quiet hostel this is probably not the best choice... the best part about this hostel is the fact you can walk to the beach in less than 2 minutes :)

Woke up this morning way before my alarm again! Checked out the apartment and made our way to our Kiwi bus pick up point in Auckland City Centre. Arriving at 7am we met a few other girls who were also starting their Kiwi Experience today. We met our driver, Jarred, who was taking us up to The Bay of Islands. There is 14 of us on our bus...13 girls …

Bush, the road of death and dolphins

A travel blog entry by matt-lewis on Jul 09, 2015

The Kiwi Experience bus left from outside Base on Queen St (just down the road from Attic) at 7.10am on Monday and we arrived in Paihia just after eleven. We stopped off at a waterfall along the way. I can't remember the name, but until I get to Iguazu Falls in Argentina, I don't think I'll get over excited about another one. Having said that, it …

Our final day activity was the eco friendly dolphin experience where we would see dolphins and possibly swim with them. We were so excited and it was both on our bucket lists to do. We didn't need to be at the boat until midday so we had a bit of a lie in and then had some brunch before heading to pier D for the dolphin eco experience. It was a …

It was 6.45am and we had already checked out and was at the meeting point at the end of the hill waiting for our kiwi experience to commence. Our driver was there at 6.50am and then made a swift exit to the next pick up point. We could tell we were obviously on a tight schedule. After picking everyone up, hearing a story that a few people were not …
