A no thrills hostel, close to town (although so are all of the others) with a decent bar and hot tub.

Good nightlife, loads of tourists, nice people. Rooms had en-suites which was good and they put on bbqs at night for super cheap which comes with a beer so can't complain.

Cheap through a good deal with "stray"-bus. Clean and nice. Never spent much time in there though. Always out exploring the region. So don't know about kitchen facilities or lounge area. Pool and spa at hostel. Internet available at cost. Very helpful staff.
I'd go back if I'm ever in Paihia again.

Base is known for being the place where a younger crowd gets rowdy, so I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived to find it was a pretty laid back kind of place.

The facilities are good and clean, with little mini kitchen areas in the rooms and en suite bathrooms in all the dorms which is always a good thing. The pool and hot tub also looked clean but I didnt use them.

Staff were friendly and the on site bar was very good value, as was the $12 bbq they put on each night.

I would stay here again, but if you are looking for a quiet hostel this is probably not the best choice... the best part about this hostel is the fact you can walk to the beach in less than 2 minutes :)

So getting on the Kiwi bus for the first time to be greeted by this very loud, very "Kiwi" women bus driver. When everyone is a bit quiet, a bit shy and you have this very excited bus driver making you play ice breaker games to try and bring everyone together. She was very in your face but I think she made the trip.

Hello! I just came back from 3 days in Paihea, in the northern part of New Zealand. We had a full day trip to Cape Reinga, the northernmost part. It was a long day in the bus, but we got to make lots of really cool stops. We got to try sandboarding, which basically means you slide down the sand dune on a board. It was so much fun :) We also got a " …

"Happiness is, waking up without a hangover" - Robert Black   Quite smugly, I woke up the next day feeling way better than I had done the day before. Sure, I'd only slept for a maximum of 4 hours but I wasn't feeling half as bad as the boys were. It seems drinking until 1.30am, going swimming in the sea, drinking more on the beach and rolling …

It was a bright and early start for me on Saturday morning, as I had to be down in the centre of town for 7am. It was a 5 hour journey up to the Bay of Islands, and if we didn't want to spend all day on a bus and …

On Nov 14th didn't really do much. I had a relaxing day in the hostel walked around some shops for a bit and then had to check into a new hostel... An all girls hostel that's when I realized I really did not have any friends that were girls. That didn't change either, all the girls pretty much kept to themselves. So I texted Dan, Kerr, Scott and …
