Hello!!!
Hello everyone just tried to Skype but can't get through! Just thought I'd update you on what I've been up to since we skyped on Friday in Brisbane. We got the greyhound bus really early and went to Byron bay which is the coolest place in the world just full of skunky dudes (think waynes world) and surfer babes. The beach was amazing and we had …
Reunion with Rosa :)
After vowing never to stay at another Base hostel after what happened on Magnetic Island, I'm checking into Base Brisbane – I give up ha! I’m pleasantly surprised to say it’s an inner city hostel. Rooms and fairly clean and spacious and the kitchen is just about useable – could be worse. Rosa gets in touch to say we’re …

My travel's in Brisbane
Thursday
After having another early night and my leg feeling a lot better I made my way out of the hostel to explore the city but first of all I booked my ticket for the Koala Sanctuary at the Base travel desk and collecting a map of the city off I went.
First of all I had a look around the Queen Street Mall and I mean had a look as the …
Die Zeit des Abschieds
Ich näher mich so langsam der Gegenwart! Huuurrray!

My friend accompanied me to Brisbane to see the Matisse exhibition; I am a backpacker and she is a four-star, must-have-hairdryer girl so this was a real experience for her. She was initially shocked at the smell in the baggage room where we stowed our bags until 2pm check-in, and also at the size of our tiny single rooms, but by the time we checked out 2 nights later she was won over to my way of travelling (mostly). We spent only the nights in our rooms so the size was irrelevant - there was room for a single bed, bedside table and large suitcase, a hook on the wall for a towel and secure locks. The building is heritage listed and divine, the shower block cleaned twice daily, the kitchen massive and well-set-out, and there's a rooftop area for chilling out with a beer or two, complete with loungers and a barbeque. It is directly opposite Central Station and close to the bus station at King George Square, and the staff were friendly and helpful even though they were getting hammered by a crowd of people checking in for a festival. The lounge/tele watching area was smelly and grungey. My friend was able to borrow a hairdryer for a $20 deposit, which was returned when she gave it back. All in all, adequate accommodations in a gorgeous old building, in an excellent and central location.

Located in an old classic Queensland building, centrally located in Brisbane, this place is packed to the max. Rooms are small and moldy, can be noisy at night. The pub downstairs have drinking nights every night of the week, good or bad, depending on your taste.
The people working here either don't give a damn about you, or they are too busy yelling at others while you wait for your turn.
Basically if you are looking for a S#@T Hole to crash a few days, this is your place.
