We were placed in a small room with no ventilation, no windows. It got very hot and stuffy real fast. Kitchen also was packed at lunch and dinner time, and was very hard to find room to cook our meals. There was also no room in the fridges. Only way up to our floor was via elevator and we didn't even know where the stairs were until somebody set off the fire alarm. Everything about this place screamed fire hazard.

We stayed at BASE two nights. It was a great launching off pad for our trip to New Zealand. Very close to the EIP offices. Since we are old married fuddle duddies, we payed a little extra to get our own room. The room was basic, bed, mirror and a small fridge, but everything we needed it to be. The bathrooms were clean, and the lounge area and staff were great. The location, right on Queens Street was good for exploring the CBD. Nothing fancy, just the basics, which is all we were looking for.

the place is great, the staff is very helpful and easy going. The place is always full of people, so even though its not the cheapest in town, its worth the extra buck for the ambiance. The beds and toilets are good and clean, and with the Globe bar downstairs and all the fast food and supermarkets around you can stay there without moving more than 200meters and have a great time.

Whilst the hostel has all the amenties that you could possibly want, they have a major problem with theft.

I personally got $200 stolen whilst I was staying in a private room, and a guy that I met was also robbed but he lost $1000 during a fire alarm.

I personally would never stay here again

A travel blog entry by achillesdk on Mar 22, 2016

Today was the day where I would get my tattoo done. But first, I decided that it was time to pack all my stuff, so it would be easier the next day to go straight to the airport in the morning. Meanwhile, I was talking with Timo, and we were having quite a bit of fun. Once that was done, I went to finalize the payment for my dad's All Black jersey, …

In the morning I first went down to order an All Blacks jersey for my dad. One where the name Jonah Lomu would be printed on. Both my dad and I have always been fan of the great rugby player, and hearing about his untimely death last november had saddened the both of us.

Afterwards, I headed to AUT to say goodbye for now …

It was finally our last day in Reporoa and of course it was raining. Selah and I had planned to hitchhike from Rotorua to Auckland, but due to the weather we had to change our plans. Since it was such short notice, our next best option was to take the bus. After saying our goodbyes, we hopped on the Manabus and headed out towards Auckland. When we …
