Where to begin!!! So my time in Waikiki (2 days) was spent seeing the sites around there you have to see, I climbed diamond head etc. I generally thought it was very touristy however, the beach was absolutely packed, full of holiday makers, and it just didnt seem to me to be what Hawaii is about. So I made the trek up to the north shore, the surfing capital of the world. The waves here in the winter are the biggest you will ever find. It is however coming in to spring/summer, so they have sim...
Pupukea, North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii, United States flicatyThey say, only a surfer knows the feeling...well I've been spectator surfing all my life. I've always defined myself as a tropical creature, I belong at the beach and I am happiest when I'm in the ocean. However, too many near-drownings as a child, blue-bottle stings and the S word, kept me from trying what I'd loved to admire others do in Australian waters. Surfing for the first time on the North shore of Oahu in winter with a sea turtle at a spot rightfully called left-overs was more than a...
Haleiwa, Hawaii, United States hawaiianpilgrimNorth Shore is how I image Hawaii lots of beautiful Beach's and not much around, well there is a starbucks at the end of the road! Staying in a wooden hut with 5 other travelers from all around the world. The beach is at of the drive and there is lots of wildlife around, maybe a little to much! Hired a bike yesterday went to the next village a long 'Haleiwa' which has lots of pretty shops and a surf museum. This place is surfers paradise.
Honolulu, Hawaii, United States hazzeltravelsI managed to do what the Doc and Marty Macfly could only do with the aid of a Dolarian and a flux capacitor, and travel through time. I set off from Sydney airport at 6:00pm on the 10th of May and arrived in Hawaii at 8:30am on the 10th of May. Crossing the date line is a very strange thing to get your head around. You are literally given another day of your life. Which is no bad thing after spending the last week of my time in Australia back in Manly Backpackers. It really messes up with you...
Honolulu, Hawaii, United States hudsondino... time. We took our body boards but the waves were too big really and we could feel the strong undercurrent so we stayed pretty close to the shore but had fun trying to catch some monsters. We stopped on the way back at a shrimp van of which there are many serving up fresh shrimp. I wasn’t sure if I would like them as seafood is not my bag really but they were delicious. Pretty tired from our action packed day we chilled that evening in the courtyard where we added some ...
Waikiki, Hawaii, United States edwardallin... a large amount of beggars in Waikiki along the street. It's almost like Covent Garden with all the made up performers pretending to be statues and the singers. We also saw the most blatant beggar that we have ever seen. His sign read 'No lying, I need beer.' I mean, come on, it's not really a message that tugs on the heart strings, is it? We ate in a restaurant called 'Bubba Gump Shrimp'. To give you an idea, it is ...
Waikiki, Hawaii, United States danandhat... was the location of the signing of the peace treaty that ended WWII as well as serving in Desert Storm. you got to tour all the different creq quarters as well as sit in the weapons ops room with those blue lights turned on like in the movies. very cool. it still had alot of the original maps and drawings etc from the war so was just an amazing experience. on the way back we went via the airforce museum where they had an F14 and F15 on the ...
Waikiki, Hawaii, United States nikkiviperThere were many things I did not expect when I bought tickets to O'ahu. Many, many things. Each little unexpected thing was excellent.
One day while I was at the house alone, lathering on sunscreen, Ted, a friend of my brother's, walked in the front door playing a guitar that was wrapped over his shoulder with an old rope. I told him I was the only one home and that my brother and sister in law were at work. He shook his head, still playing the guitar, and said it was okay, he was ...
... they think of Hawaii, and it is a great way to familiarize yourself with the local flora and fauna. If you are lucky and take a tour you may end up with a very knowledgeable guide and that will intensify your trip, that in addition to the hiking stick they lend you might be worth the money. These hikes are of course available without a guide, if you know where to go. A little planning isn’t difficult, and the paths are clear cut so it’s not like ...
Oahu, Hawaii, United States confessions... only my phobias it seems since the rest of what we needed was for rent at Hanauma Bay for $16 per person. As Hanauma Bay is one of the most spectacular Nature Preserves in Hawaii, the first part of the visit is a mandatory 15 minute video about the bay and the efforts to reverse the damage that has been done over the years by millions of visitors. The main themes of the video are: the coral reefs in the bay are a living thing, the reefs are very sharp and can cut the ...
