We spent a couple nights in the town of Manuel Antonio, and the second day, went into the National Park. We were aware that it is Costa Rica's most popular tourist destination, and expected to see swarms of tourists, even in the off season...

Sure enough, the beach in Manuel Antonio was packed, but we stayed off the beaten path, walked …

Monkeys and minor disasters

This weekend (my last one as a volunteer!) we went to Manuel Antonio National Park. It didn't start well, we planned to get the 7am bus from San Jose, and got taxis so we could have a teensy bit more time in bed. Only we accidentally went to the wrong bus terminal. We blame the taxi driver, but I suspect it was probably our mistake.. So, still …

Bus: Quepos - Manuel Antonio

We left Jaco at about 6:45pm, though we started waiting for the bus at 6pm. The bus only goes to Quepos and then you get off at a station and wait for a local bus to take you to Manuel …

Manuel Antonio - endlich Strand...

The dorms and bathroom were clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful. There's a supermarket right across the street as well as about 6 restaurants of different types of cuisines a stone's throw away. Great views of the jungle and a bit of the Pacific.

We stayed one night here, when we first arrived in Manuel Antonio. The guy at the reception was young and kind of preoccupied, but nice. We had a 30 or so bed dorm room to ourselves, because it was pretty slow. The beds were tiny, and rather uncomfortable. We chose to move to another spot for our second night in Manuel Antonio...

Since the hostel is located on the mountain between Quepos and Manuel Antonio it's not convenient for beach or park access, but the local bus runs every 20 or 30 minutes. The have a nice pool, friendly staff, and pretty great beds. It's always nice to know you have clean sheets--and they do. If I go back to the park, I'll probably stay there again.
