Arriving into Sydney, the first thing I saw from the plane was a sign for Macdonalds. Perhaps a sign for having reached the other side of the western world. Or at least it would be if the Golden arches didn't already rule the world. It's a nice feeling to be able to walk down the street without being stared at and even pointed at through whispered glares. Whats even nicer perhaps, is being able to read menus and packets meaning I actually know what I'm eating. And knowing its not octopus. Oz ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia pricklyleafAfter yet another overnight bus journey (our last for a while), we arrived in Sydney Central at 7:30am for our second visit to the city. Having exhausted ourselves totally last time by walking everywhere, our first purchase was a travelpass allowing us unlimited bus, train and ferry trips for a week. We then set about getting our money's worth, Rachel refusing to walk anywhere until we had! Thankfully, our hostel was a lot nicer than last time with a fantastic roof terrace and nice dorms. It ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia rachandstuWe had two nights to spend here on our way back to syndey to catch our flights back to the us. The bus ride from brisbane was long as we had been partying ******* the camp trip and final night at the hostel for 4 days straight almost. We all slept mostly but the drive had some good scenry...saw a kangaroo chillin on the highway. Once we arrived here it was go time again. This is basically a beach town so it was tons of bars and clubs and not much else. It was winter in australia so we tried t...

It was the furst day flights were allowed back in the us. Nate and Adam got off with some trouble, but my ticket ended up in my parents suitcase so i had to wait until monday to go to the quantas office to get a ticket re issued. Thus, i spent 2 extra days here on my own which was fun. Set up in some hostel in syndey and got stuck rooming with some belgian dude, huge wang. slept 1 our both night...

Ooooowwwww.... thats how I feel this week... how damn pathetic am I, two days of hard labour and I am left about as useless as an inflatable dartboard and probably as delicate. All I had to do was shovel some soil, continuously for two days, more legs ache, my back aches my hands are ripped to shreads, still least it has made me more accustomed to this and harder for the next time as well as paying a pretty decent wage. Spent the next morning in bed and soaking in a nice hot sho...

... the Central Station and within reasonable distance of the main touristic spots. It was OK for the first few days, except the cockroaches, the dirtiness and the holes in the bed base (it's hard to sleep on 3 slats, two under the shoulders, one under the feet, and nothing inbetween), but at some point some gay asian gigolos started renting rooms for their activities, so we started seeing shady men coming and going... After seing one coming out half naked to go to the bahroom, I ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia terredeshommes... so it was still very quiet and many of the stores were closed, but it was quite impressive to see the layout! Considering the weather, I decided to stick around until it opened and then purchased an Australian sweater (nothing screams "tourist" more than a big sweatshirt with “Australia” on it, but given the weather I really didn’t care!!!!). The shops were quite impressive and by the time I got out with my sweater and tons of souvenirs, I was in a ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia caro_paquette... I suppose it's a lot easier when the displays are in a language that you actually don't need to use your dictionary to translate. I also drank a lot of tea in Sydney as my hostel had free tea. FREE TEA! Now, for anyone who knows me vaguely well you will realise that tea + the word free = a very happy Shona.
Whilst in Sydney I also met up with a guy who Lisa and I had met during our Inka trail. He invited me to his ...
27.04.09: We are going to Sydney! Incredible! I remember in Brisbane when the sign said it was over 950km away! After some phone calls to Norman, Sean's cousin, we decided to go to Manly before he was leaving work. Lovely beach, really relaxed. We enjoyed strolling down the Esplanade and the wharf while eating a big ice-cream. We drove in Sydney with Marilyn and she did great. Roads are quite large so it is not too much of a hassle, except she has some blind ...
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia leprefrog... their schedule you will not have full hiking days. They call them "walks" for a reason. If you want "hikes," then do them quicker (I liked the Routeburn in 2 days), or be sure to take each and every side trip. Really, my advice, get to New Zealand, it's worth the long trip... Well, it was a blast, time to have a fun week in Aussie land...and then a major culture shock with China. Wow, this trip is crazy. Let's hope I find a good doctor tomorrow....
