      10 Hours

Fortaleza was literally just a stopping point on our journey from the rubbish city of Recife to the paradise beach resort of Jericoacoara. The 14 hour bus journey was actually rather nice. Bit of sleep, listening to music, watched a film and read about a third of my Jules Verne book. We arrived in Fortaleza at about 9.30 and by the time we got to …

Arriving early morning into Fortaleza after our overnight flights we pulled up outside Backpackers CE, a basic hostel run by a lovely old lady called Gisele who can speak most of the European languages it seems. I use the word basic (although by no means am complaining) as the dorms/ rooms basically contained beds, a small fan and nothing more ( …

New place new friends. Fortaleza was cool because right when I got there we went out. Some Chileans brought a big bottle of pisco and before you know it we all were riding happy on the way to pink elephant. It's a popular expensive night club they have here in Brazil. Anyways the next several days it was pretty much the same. Fortaleza to me seems a little rough and unsafe. I'll admit I had a good time here and my portuguese is getting ...

What a match and an atmosphere

As we come to the end of our Brazilian adventure we had the pleasure of achieving one of my ambitions of watching Brazil play football in Brazil in a major competition. As you can tell from the photo we could not wish for better seats as we had VIP access and sat on the half way line. We were apparently sitting with a number of Brazilian celebrities but as none were footballers I had no idea who they were. The atmosphere was superb ...

... be the cheapest thing we could find but also right by the Fan Fest. We went to pick up our Holland v Mexico game tickets (oh yes we got them!!!) and then headed to one of the many beach bars to watch the game. 30 degrees here so we decided the Fan Fest in the sun may not be the best option for us gringos. The bar we chose was great and packed full of locals all out in their colours to watch the game. It was a great atmosphere and a tense match with Brazil scoring ...
