Fortaleza was literally just a stopping point on our journey from the rubbish city of Recife to the paradise beach resort of Jericoacoara. The 14 hour bus journey was actually rather nice. Bit of sleep, listening to music, watched a film and read about a third of my Jules Verne book. We arrived in Fortaleza at about 9.30 and by the time we got to …
Arriving early morning into Fortaleza after our overnight flights we pulled up outside Backpackers CE, a basic hostel run by a lovely old lady called Gisele who can speak most of the European languages it seems. I use the word basic (although by no means am complaining) as the dorms/ rooms basically contained beds, a small fan and nothing more ( …
... I needed to be – the LP map shows the airport to be 6km away
but took over an hour, standing up the whole way.
Was hot (in my jeans) and tired, despite my ½ kilo of buffet
lunch – the ordeal with the buses and shopping the 4 floors of the market took
it out of me so treated myself to a taxi back. For once, happy to get back into
... also quite windy which meant I could have a go at kite surfing. I had a 2 hour lesson whilst Helen dutifully took photos. My instructor told Helen I was pretty good and I have to say I agree, I was good, so that is now on the 'to learn' list once home. After all the hard work of taking photos, Helen decided she deserved a bit of R&R so had a 40 minute massage which she loved. That's pretty much Fortaleza. Next stop....... Jericoacoara H & R ...
New place new friends. Fortaleza was cool because right when I got there we went out. Some Chileans brought a big bottle of pisco and before you know it we all were riding happy on the way to pink elephant. It's a popular expensive night club they have here in Brazil. Anyways the next several days it was pretty much the same. Fortaleza to me seems a little rough and unsafe. I'll admit I had a good time here and my portuguese is getting ...
