So today I woke up early and checked out of the hostel. I went to Gare de Lyon( the correct train station) and bought some pastries for breakfast and a sandwich for the train. I thought I bought a ham and cheese sandwich, but when I got on the train and found out it was egg and pickle! what the hell! i ate it anyway, but it wasnt good. I slept and read my book on the train. When the train got near the water it was a great view of Cannes and everyone on the train was looking out the window. I ...
Nice, France jglickHello from Nice just saying a quick hi. Nice is amazingly beautiful though we haven't had time to explore much yet. Nate and I are meeting all kinds of people from all around the world (lots of New Zealanders) which I guess it what happens when you stay in a room with 6 other people! Yesterday we met up with our friend Laura who is here also for a couple of days. She had rented a car and so we went to a small town called St.Paul which was very toursity but quite nice and then over to Cannes w...
Nice, Provence, France k_in_franceThe past few days have been really nice and relaxing. I've been getting to sleep in and just take my time looking around Nice. Yesterday Nate and I caught a random bus up to the hills. The view was amazing! There are buses that go all over the area here so it isn't that hard to just take one anywhere you really want. We got a 7 day pass so it has been no problem to just hop on and off whenever we want. Today I went down to the beach and relaxed for a while. I like the beaches here at Nice bec...
Nice, France k_in_franceNice is only kinda nice. We spent more time in nearby Monte Carlo then we did in Nice. The train between the two places is fast, and departs multiple times daily.
Nice, Provence, France mrisbisterBeautiful pebble beaches, greenery cascading over the cliffs, turquoise water, rolling hills with incredible ivory stucco homes with red ceramic rooftops, posh shopping and cute little outdoor restaurants and cafes serving the finest mixtures of french and italian cuisine... this is what we experienced in the south of France for 5 days. This place has definitely made it to our top 3 (even though it's hard to say there's such a thing since we've enjoyed every place so much!) We had originally ...
Nice, Provence, France tammiandchrissy I rode an overnight train from Paris to Nice which was pretty cool. It was a 4-man bunk which I shared with a nice Icelandic couple and a not so talkative Frenchie. It's a pretty good deal because you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning and there you are. In your new destination.
So far the weather has been awesome! And the topless women on the beach make this a pretty good place to be. But there is a down side to topless beaches-topless old ladies and big women. I've alread...

-Notes about random stuff: I am slow on updating pictures and blogs because the French keyboard has the letters in different spots. And apparently symbols like !@#$ are more important than 1234. So you have to SHIFT them. And trying to transfer pictures onto my USB usually won't work because of admin rights on my internet cafe PC. And the fact that the connection is usually slow and I...

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.
Monaco, Monaco tilmanI know I always write the same...great weather, such a nice city, good food....but I have to say that Nice was a (very) big surprise for me, I can say that it is my favourite city in Europe (ok, number 2 after Lisbon). You have the mountains, the Cote dŽAzur (when you see the water you know why the name is Cote dŽAzur), the market with fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, oil, soap, you have great restaurants ...
Nice, Provence, France tilmanIt is Sunday and very wet and miserable here in Antibes. Quite a change from the glorious day we had yesterday. Ideal for computer work in fact... (Except that then things didn't pan out as planned and it is now Monday)
It wasn't my intention to have an entry before my departure but the response to my initial circular has been so overwhelming that I feel it merited an ...
... we don't really have enough Euros to start losing them at the casino in Monaco - also what would we wear? No James Bond-esque tux in our backpacks for Lewey or a gorgeous evening dress for Dee...
Speaking of shopping, although Nice is very laid back, it also has lots and lots of shmancy shops as well... there's a strip near the beach with everything from Hermes to Dolce and all in between... Dee contemplated a bit of retail therapy there and then decided maybe not.... It reminded ...
