... colourful exotic birds was a particular delight that amazed me in every region that I visited. The scents of strange flowers and trees , including the eucalyptus, was also fascinating.

Outside the cities I was treated to the sight of many of the animals for which Australia is famous. A short list would include kangaroos, wallabies, bandicoots, wombats, possums, lizards, crocodiles, snakes, fruit bats and , yes, I did see a Tasmanian Devil.

After a day and a half in Sydney and its environs, we have made several observations. It's a very clean and well maintained city. It appears to be quite safe day and night. In every encounter, people are consistently friendly, helpful and courteous.

We had a bout with food poisoning last night. Apparently some lemon juice that had not been refrigerated was the culprit. Mike and Natalie had it the worst and Kev only puked once.
